My ten year old son was diagnosed with Crohn's when he was seven. First noticed problem when he was five and it took two years to navigate through the "he's just lean" and "once we unconstipate him, he will be fine" and "it is just acid reflux
" obstacle course. The initial reason I took him to the doctor was because he was soooo thin and wasn't eating. Once the doc's realized his condition was not "normal" we made progress in defining what he had and managing the pain. I was worried about his growth, so we were referred for that too. In all this time, it doesn't seem that we have gotten very far in the process. He did a pill cam study. The camera got stuck. What they found when they went in to get it was horrifying! The inflammation and strictures
were extremely severe, extensive and not anywhere near the ilium. Okay, he his now recovering from MAJOR surgery. The nasty stuff is out. His growth is "delayed" from the disease (not eating and nutrient absorption problems). His weight has held at around 48 lbs all this time. Is there any real hope he will feel better now and that we will be able to put some weight on him, so that we can finally address the delayed growth issues????
