I recently had a colonoscopy (mid March) after noticing more mucus in my stool and a change of BM's. At times there was a little blood but not much. More mucus if anything. I was told I had Pan Colitis
liver. I had to change my diet and was put on Balzalizide (9 pills per day). I immediately eliminated fats, fried foods, alcohol, etc and saw a difference in BM quanity however the Balzalizide after two weeks wasn't showing much improvement. I also approached my company doctor. He requested the pathology report this is what it said:
and chronic inflammation including cryptitis. The pattern is not specific for a particular diagnosis. While the differential diaganosis includes early IBD, the absence of gland architechture distortion is unusual in IBD, and other etiologies including infectious causes should be considered in correlation to the patients clinical history and endoscopic findings."
After a few weeks of antibiotics things appear to be ironing out however I am eating much less and have yet tempted fate with foods of the past that I have since cut out. I probably will get another scope run early next year. If I have no further symptoms, in theory am I cured? If I do have a chronic colitis is it imperative to be on meds if diet alone is doing a good job? I am kind of in limbo land right now and confused. Did I mention I am a medic-phobic as well. I probably lost 10 pounds overnight just stressing about the colonoscopy...that is not good for my health either. Thoughts, comments. Also no ulcerations were found on colonoscopy. I was told I would need a scope run every year after 10th year of diagnosis..is this to aggressive? My buddy with UC (I believe his was pan as well) gets it every 2 years.
