Lactose Intolerance or IBS?

Lactose Intolerance or IBS?

My symptoms consist of:
intestinal cramps
bloating
excess gas/wind
nausea
loss of appetite which has led to weight loss
aching muscles
lack of energy/feeling tired
tight pulling feeling behind belly button

I have had these symptoms for about 7 months or more. When they started occuring I saw my GP and they suggested it was a tummy bug and prescribed gaviscon. This didn't help at all and this so-called  tummy bug went on for 3 months. I looked my symptoms up on the internet and came to the conclusion that I had latose intollerence. I tested this by cutting milk, cream, cheese, etc out of my diet. This seemed to help and when I did have any food high in lactose the symptoms would come back. I spoke to my doctor but she was adament that it was still a tumm bug and not this.

I have since continued on my lactose free diet but the symptoms still sometimes come back for no apparent reason and can last for a few days.

Could I have IBS that is irritated by dairy products; could this be lactose intollerence as I thought, or is this a hugely prolonged tummy bug; or what else?

Thanks
