Low Dose Naltrexone - Crohns

you might want to check out this study that was recently completed - A Crohns study using low dose Naltrexone.  If you scroll down on the site posted you can read about it and also see the pictures.  Please check it out for yourself.

http://www.lowdosenaltrexone.org/

Also, here is the 2008 Conference.   http://www.ldninfo.org/conf2008.htm

If you don't have time to look at the 2nd site in entirety, I would suggest scrolling down to Dr.Berkson's Presentation. He speaks of Pancreatic Cancer and with that you will see before and after scans of those who have been taking ldn.
This drug is FDA approved but being used "off label" as an immune modulator to help with autoimmune diseases and cancers and other immune related diseases.

I saw I missed some of the docs answer post it now .

"There is growing recognition in the scientific community that autoimmune diseases result from immunodeficiency, which disturbs the ability of the immune system to distinguish "self" from "non-self". The normalization of the immune system induced by LDN makes it an obvious candidate for a treatment plan in such diseases.

Etanercept (Enbrel) is a drug that treats autoimmune diseases by interfering with the TNF receptor so it can be used.

Take care! "

Actually I´m on it been that for 6 weeks can´t say if it had helped me yet. still very fatigue and have muscle joint and bone pain.

I´m making "my own" LDN from 50mg naltrexone pills only cost me 5$ a month when doing 4.5mg doses.

I searched LDN on the rheumatoid arthritis expert forum found this post.

"I was wondering if anyone has prescribed LDN for RA.  My mother has severe RA she is 73 yrs old. She was dx'ed at age 45. She is currently on enbrel, and several other meds for ra and her heart. At this point any thing that might give her some releif would be great. I understand that LDN is cheat, and safe. She would never stop her enbrel I just wondered if LDN could be added, only if it possible help."

To: lala47,
"Low dose naltrexone (LDN), where naltrexone is used in doses approximately one-tenth, treatment for certain immunologically-related disorders, like RA. Beta-endorphins are important regulators of the immune system. Naltrexone, which is a pure antagonist to narcotics, causes an artificial blockade of the endorphin/opioid receptors.

LDN clears joint pain and swelling in most of the patients and you can try this with your mother."

When a doc recomends it here at MH I really think it could be worth while testing, of cource in collaboration with your doc.

Ldn is good to take even if a person doesn't have any health issues
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Even "fatigue" ldn will help with. Might be because fatigue can sometimes be "stress related." And stress lowers the immune system and ldn "helps" the immune system so that makes sense to me.

You're welcome ca. It doesn't look like people are here are interested in LDN, but I put it here just incase - because as the study proves it will help with Crohns and could save a person from having to go on those harsh drugs and get surgery...

Whats interesting ca, people with RA problems, Sjogrens and stuff like that will have a problem trying to convince a doctor to write them a script because its off label,,,BUT people with Crohns should be able to bring this study I posted and hand it to their doctor and tell them they want it. It would be hard for the doctor to argue about not giving a script because the Crohns study is there in black and white. And not only that, these doctors need to know about Ldn and just as with hep, sometimes the patient brings the "latest news in treatments" to the doctor instead of the other way around.

Ca, if you haven't already, take a look when you get time at the second site I posted, Dr. Berkson and the success he is getting with ldn and pancreatic cancer...
I had a consult with the doctor who discovered ldn and he told me that the pancreas doesn't have receptors for chemo and yet we all know that people with pancreatic cancer get chemo! Thats pretty sad to go thru that when its not going to help.

Btw, Ldn is good to take even if a person doesn't have any health issues.  The doc that discovered it, his staff is all on it.

Take care,
MO

Difficulties that can be atouimmune issues since I have it in the family.
