My older sister finally was dxd with Crohn's after many years of suffering. I believe it has been well over 5 years since she was dxd. Last year she was dx with Rheumatoid Arthritis. She is I think 62. She is on a LOT of medicine for both. She is getting methotrexate via i.v. weekly. Is this a common
treatment? Her Crohns is bothering her much more then the arthritis. I want to learn as much as I can about Crohn's. She is also , as she says on handfuls of medication everyday. I am also but I have different problems.
So I will try to listen and not yap too much (: Thanks
I have Lupus, which is a cousin to RA, plus Crohn's Disease. Honestly, it can be hard to tell sometimes which one is flaring more because some of the symptoms overlap. At first, my rheumatologist thought I had RA and he put me on methotrexate. It made me horribly, horribly sick.
Because I'd been having a lot of GI problems, too, and some bloodwork came back positive for IBD, he sent me to a gastroenterologist. When the scoped me, my GI doc said my stomach and other areas looked like raw meat. They immediately took me off the methotrexate. Turned out I have Lupus, anyway, and I was put on different immunosuppressants.
Have they tried your sister on Remicade? I did Remicade for about 8 months -- it helped my IBD and other issues but, unfortunately, it made my Lupus problems a lot worse. But Remicade is an approved treatment for both RA and Crohn's so that would be her best bet.
