Pending surgery

Pending surgery

I am a first-time user.  I am facing a total colectomy due to a severe case of colitis.  I've had DVT's in both legs. Thus I am on blood thinners(waffern).  I've had a hemorrhagic stroke back in October of 07. I've weakness on the right side. I also have epilepsy, hypertension and neropathy.

I've been told I'll have to have a permanent ileostomy due to the blood thinner situation. The pouch is not an option.  My question is I've been told I'm a surgical risk. What kind of risk am I and is there any way out of this without surgery? I've already had three opinions and are all the same.

I'm from Boston so I'm looking at Mass. Gen. ,Brigham and Women's and Beth Israel Deaconess. Do you have any recommendations as to the choice of the hospital.

Needless to say I'm scared to have the surgery due to the risks I'm assuming there will be. Is there a possibility that I can have a laparoscopic surgery. Due to the complications are less risky. Just what I my risks and be straight with me please.
