by steeleye, Sep 27, 2008 01:12PM
Hi,
Has anyone taken the above tablets- they are a steroid and I have been put on them as the doctor is not sure if it is Chron's or Colitis. Just wondered what side effects anyone had experienced on these?
Cheers

How many mgs a day? I was on them for weeks started at 40 mgs for 2 wks then tamper down. Yes you will have side effects as the drug gets in your system Acne was my biggest one.
Then being hyper then down this will happen also.
There are lots of side effects with prednisone it really just depends how long you are on the drug itself.

I was on these quite a bit back when I had colitis many years ago.  The side effects I experienced were increased appetitie and chipmunk cheeks.  Some people can get mood swings but I was just so happy at how quickly they healed my flare up.

I had the J-Pouch surgery 15 years ago so am cured but my son (22) now has ulcerative colitis and has always struggled to put on weight.  I get a kick out of him when he needs to go on the Prednisone.  He is always over here looking for something to eat.  It is so good to see him feeling better and eating.  Good luck to you and I hope they can determine which you have soon.
