UC and Prostate Cancer Radiation Treatment

My husband is 50 yr old and had Brachytherapy for prostate cancer 1 1/2 yrs. ago.  Within 6 months of the treatment he started to develop symptoms which have since been diagnosed as ulcerative pancolitis.  His first symptoms were diarrhea, then blood and pus.  He has lost 20 pounds since the onset of symptoms.  His dr first tried asacol and it worked for about 3 wks.  He started on Lialda a week ago and it worked for 1st couple of days.  We've tried eliminating different foods including all dairy and lactose.  His symptoms may get better for a day or so and then return.

My question is this.  Has anyone ever had prostate cancer, been treated with Brachytherapy radiation seed implant and ended up with UC??  Any insight would be greatly appreciated!!  Its very frustrating because drs just don't seem to have a very good understanding of this disease.

Thank you!
