VATERS Syndrome and Ulcerative Colitis

I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis in Sept of 2008, and was told that it had nothing to do with a syndrome that I had when I was born.  I was born with VATERS syndrome.  One of the complications of this syndrome was my stomach and intestines were not connected at birth, and had multiple operations to get this corrected.  By the time I was 3 years old, I was finally fixed and had bowels as a normal healthy person.

I am now in a situation that I need my colon taken out because of the Colitis.  I was wondering if there is anyone out there that has had these two complications.  I have told multiple doctors and most doctors haven't heard of VATERS and if they have, they haven't heard of someone having both.

My son was born with VATER Association in 1994.  He is 22 years old now, and it has recently been suggested that he may have Crohn's Disease. He has been dealing with inflammation of his small bowel. His doctors also think that is not related to the VATER Association, but I don't think they know for sure.
