Working during Flares

For many years I was able to hold great jobs and deal with my flares but now I am finding it very hard, frustrating and stressful to do this anymore. How do others manage this?

Immodium was my best friend.  If it isn't helping you might want to talk to your doctor about trying an antispasmodic.  If you flares are increasing talk to your doctor about possibly trying an immune suppressant.  My son has been in complete remission for 2 years with Imuran.  It is important that as soon as you feel a flare that you contact your doctor in order to get it under control ASAP.  You may need a round of prednisone and an increase in your other meds.  When I had UC (had 10 years) it got worse as the years went on and my doctor did not do a good job of managing it.  I ended up perforating and having emergency surgery.  I have had a j-pouch for 17 years and it has done me well.  This is another option you may want to discuss with your doctor.
