azathioprine for uc

hi folks been prescribed azathioprine for my uc !! because keep having constant flare ups when i finish my steriods?? has anyone else had these and how did you get on with them? im starting them in a couple of days! i will have to have blood tests reguraly /weekly for amonth / 2 weekly for a month/ then every 2 months/ any info would be great many thanks

hi im on that to its the only thing that keeps me of the steroids im on it 3 years now. when i was put on it first it left me feeling sick but once my body got use to it iwas fine,i have only had one flare up since i was put on it you might feel a bit sick and tired when you start takening it but that will all go away with time i think its brillant i was also put on iron for a while to when i started to take it hope i helped .    good luck!!!!

you get your bloods checked alot to ensure your body is coping with the supressed immune system,  i was on 50mg of azathioprine for a bout year, worked great but then they up-ed the dose and turned me into Linda Blair with the projectile vomitting. so they swapped me over to 6mp which is similar and i'm happy with that.

less side affects and long term problems on azathiaprine thant the steroids, it's a good step forward!

azathioprine is an autoimmune supressent.  I have chrons and take them every day.  Started with 100MG but since I had cancer, found when they did a bowel resection - caught early no other treatment, my dr lowered it to 50mg a day.

No side effects.
