I've been on it for all the time I've had crohns which is 7 years. I am also on ramicade. I've been on steroids, had a bowel resection, and I've found that azathiaprine has helped. I've just had to come off all my meds as I'm 32 weeks pregnant so fingers crossed my crohns behaves until after the birth. I didn't get any symptoms with azathiaprine, I just found I caught every illness and bug going. Hope this helps. X
Hi,
One of my friend has found it effective as he got positive results with azathioprine. He was consulted 2 yrs back and now he has almost recovered. May be this azathioprine is sometimes used alone or in combination with other immunosuppressive therapy in the treatment process. I have read this and many experts recommend the azathioprine dose as per requirement.
I have been on it for the last year straight and am not totally sure how much it really works. I had some side effects from it such as nausea and hair loss to a certain extent. The nausea was fixed by taking it at night which seemed to really help.
Being on it did not eliminate me from other meds as I am currently back on prednisone 40mg for a month due to a flareup. Pentasa and Asacol never worked for me either.
I guess in short every medication works for different people in different ways. I dont know if this helps...but I hope you get it sorted ou! All the best!
I have been on it, but for me it did not do anything, but I have a really bad case of crohn's. I have been on every medication in the book except for remicaid which they are doing next, but here are some of the meds that seemed to help me the most.
entocort
prednisone 40mg daily for 1 week, then 30 a day for a week, 20mg a day for a week, 10mg a day for a week 5mg a day for a week. (when bad flare up's occour)
6MP worked well also
pentasa did not work on me nor its sister medication asacol
pepcid, and other medications along the same line made me much worse,
hope this helps you out some
