chronic right flank pain

chronic right flank pain

I was diagnosed with crohn's about 4 years ago, although another gastroenterologist I saw briefly wasn't enitrely convinced of the diagnosis. I Moved out of state and am currently seeing another gastro.
I have been having this chronic dull pain on my right side for which seems forever. It affects everything I do. WHen I get up from a sitting position, it affects my right lower back to where I have trouble getting up normally. I have back pain all the time because of it. I can tell the two are connected. It's a "full" feeling as well, as if everything in there is really inflamed.
My current gastro ordered a CT scan of my abdomen which came back negative, so he prescribed an anti-spasmotic and called it good. Well, it's NOT good. I've been to THREE doctors and I am still in pain. I started Metagenics UltraInflamX about a week ago but haven't had much relief.
Does anyone have any insight? Any response will be appreciated. Thanks, Alison

It sounds like they are treating you for IBS. DO you have any diarrhea with pain around your belly button area or joint pain? I take Imuran and Asacol with the occasional prednisone and that seems to be working well. It's hard when doctors change I also recently just had to take my bx results to another gastro because my current one, he's great, he retired damn it! But it's almost like you have to start over with them it's so frustrating.

That flank pain is classic of Crohn's. No amount of "Metagenics Ultrainflamx" is going to help. See a gastro. about your options. Crohn's is a very complex disease and tenacious.

I also have a dull ache in the right hand side which is now creeping up into my Right Kidney........It took a while before I was diagnosed with Crohns (since May 2008), as all my blood test results and scans were coming back normal, which was so frustrating, as, I also was being treated for IBS which I knew it wasn't as I have had IBS for 10 years!  However my gastro suspected that it may be something more so referred me to senior gastro, and it was from a special ultra sound that I was diagnosed as there was no mistaking the inflamation (inflammation) in the ileum.  I'm now on Rafton 9mg and Imuran 100mg but speaking to my gastro last week, it's possible that I may be put on methotrexate, as I am Steriod dependant and if I can't reduce the Rafton next month then the Imuran is not working.
