ilieostomy reversal

had emergency surgery in july leaving me with no colon, appendix, and I had 4inches of intestines removed. Docs says that there is still alittle crohns on the rectum and have put me on Imuran. They want to check the rectum December 6th and they will let me know if the rectum has healed and if a reversal is able to be done.  Ive gone from 67 pounds to 104 so that's gotta be a good sign that things are healing right? Im so nervous about what the probability is of being able to have a reversal done and was wondering if anyone could give me some insight. Is 4 months long enough for rectal muscosa to heal that the bag can be reversed?

Absolutely four months is enough time. I had UC and 16 yrs ago had my colon and rectum removed, small intestines refashioned into a rectum or what's called a J pouch. I could have had the reconnection surgery in 3 months but I put it off for 6 as I just wasn't ready for another surgery mentally. Good luck!

I am in the same boat! My surgery will be in the new year, but I actually have to go for a scope to determine whether it's Crohn's or Colitis now.. Because they could never tell before..

My doc said that a reversal would be possible with some of the disease still there, but I would be on some medications to control the disease.
It all depends on the doctor. Something I have learned with this condition is to hope for the best, but expect the worst. It makes coping with the bad news better..

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi!
I am sorry to hear about your medical problems. Yes, four months is enough time for the rectal mucosa to heal. Also, since you are gaining weight, it should be a good sign. If there is some inflammation left, there are many other drugs which can be tried along with steroids. Please consult your doctor regarding this. Take care!

The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you. The advice may not be completely correct for you as the doctor cannot examine you and does not know your complete medical history. Hence this reply to your post should only be considered as a guiding line and you must consult your doctor at the earliest for your medical problem.
