might try something new

by tundra0379, Jan 05, 2009 05:51PM
I have been sffering with colitis now for  about 6 months and well have tried everything from salofalk to control it  prednisone (60 mg a day) um entocort and now imuran with prednisone and well just can't get it under control. I am seriously considering trying some marijuana to see if maybe it will calm things down or maybe stopp my flare up completely now i know it will relax me  but is it really worth a try?  I am not sure if i should ? anybody have any experience with this?

HI there.  You do need to give the Imuran some time to work.  My son recently had another flare up and they put him on the prednisone and then as it is winding down they have started the Imuran.  He told me his doctor said the Imuran takes a number of months before it starts working.

I would highly recommend marijuana.  My son was smoking for a year and was so healthy.  When he quit he flared again.  Studies have proven it helps.  There is another poster not far down on the forum who has been using this successfully.

You might also want to look at your diet.  A gluten free diet has been proven to help and in most cases when flaring dairy, coffee, sugar, fibre and spicy foods can irritate.  Good luck!

thank you for your advice, i have been on imuran for about a month and a half now  like i know it takes time to build up into your system but do you think if i smoked marijuana i might see some progress sooner? and oh i wanted to ask this yesterday is there any reactions with marijuana and prednisone or imuran ?

My son has had no reactions and is now eating everything he loves and is down to 2 bowel movements a day.
