Have been diagnosed with proctitis today, its coming from ulcerative colitis; are they the same? or affect you in different ways?

Hey Trisha!

Proctitis refers to inflammation of the rectum and though commonly seen in ulcerative colitis it could be present in a few other conditions as well, especially when proctitis is the sole finding. However if you have previously been diagnosed with UC, the proctitis is likely to be associated. I would suggest discussing the possibility in detail with your treating gastroenterologist.
