I am a 43 year old woman. A couple of days ago, i noticed a small amount of bright red blood in my stool and on the paper. I had no pain, but is concerned. I wont get to see my doctor for at least three weeks. Is it ok to wait that long?

I would call your doctors office and talk to your doctors nurse and explain your symptoms and see what they say and if they can get you in earlier...if not I would go into the ER...it could be nothing but it could be something...with blood in stool you just never know...with UC or chrons its usually a darker color blood and not bright red but not everybody is the same.  Do something soon about it though 3 weeks is a long while off

Hi Gail, obviously you're going to be worried when something unusual like that happens but there are any number of reasons that you could have blood in your BMs. The most obvious thing the Dr will check for is Piles, which can cause blood to appear. When my Ulcerative Colitis started there was no mistaking it - there was a lot of blood, it was really painful, and i sense of urgency when using the toilet. I'm no Dr but your symptoms don't sound like mine. I hope that helps. Oliver
