Pouchitis is an inflamation (inflammation) of the J pouch.  My experience has been over the years to have occasional flare up of pouchitis.  The doctor tells me that is is caused by the pouch not emptying fully.  Bacteria lingers and causes nasty side effects.  Cipro is the only way I can manage it.  If you hear of any other treatments especially diet related that is what Im looking for.  I hope this helps

I have never had back and stomach pain with my pouchitis.  When I take cipro for my pouchitis, I feel very good.  I don't even think about going to the restroom during the work day. I can even sleep through the night without getting up.  The meds really help me.  Do you take anything for pouchitis?  I am just tiring of the side effects of antibiotics for months at a time. that is why I am looking for alternative treatments like probiotics or diet.

i used to take codeine phosphate and imodium (immodium) and still went up to 15 times a day so they didnt really help and the side effects were worse i have been taking codeine again since saturday as the side effects are the same as the pain im getting so im no worse off pain wise ive slowed down a bit now back to 15  or so which my surgeon told me that wont get any better the only thing that made it better was my last 2 pregnancies which i went about 10 times but after delivery back to normal the only thing that ever slowed me less than that was when ive had to take metroniazole antibiotics  for infections and that made me less than 5 but cant take that forever i think its to do with diet myself and i have been told that the probiotic drinks and yoghurts are good for the bowel by my surgeon but i dont have a good appetitie and dont like yoghurts that much but i think its worth a try but you do have to be careful at the same time with alternative treatments that they dont make you worse ive tried herbal tablets for colitis and they made me worse so just be careful with that
