I'm 48 and have had Crohn;s for 32 years. I have always had a terrible time controlling my illness. However, when I got pregnant it was like I was a different person. I went into a total remission and was able to be off most if not all of my meds. It was really something. I was fine too when I was breastfeeding. Once I stopped, my illness was back just the way it was before I became pregnant. It was weird but I have four healthy kids and I am so glad that I was able to enjoy myself. It's really important to keep a positive attitude and to take care of yourself. Rest well and as often as possible. Eat really well too. Just be good to yourself.
Good uck to you and feel free to write me with any questions you might have.

My daughter was diagnosed with Crohn's when she was 12.  She is now 26 and has 3 of the most beautiful children in the world. Yes, it is possible to have a healthy pregnancy and babies when you have Crohn's.  Two pregnancies she was healthier than when not pregnant.  After the first pregnancy she got really sick and lost lots of weight.  A year later she got pregnant again and almost immediately she went into remission and has been there since.

Good Luck

Hello- I can help you with this question. I found out in 2000 that I have Chrons. My son was almost two when I found out that I had the disease. I was worried because I too wanted a second child.  I became so depressed because so many doctors told me that it would not be possible. I lost 11" of my small intestine, 7" of my large and my gall bladder due to stones.  I went on a diet by Elaine Gotshall- Breaking the Vicious Cycle I think was the name. My Chrons was severe and I got it into control. In July of 2001 my doctors said that it was safe to have a child. My daughter is now 5 and she is healthy. Chrons will always be in my body- but it did not prevent me from having a family. God bless you and I wish you well. Amy

I was dx with Crohn's in 1970 - the dark ages and told I could not have children.....absolute nonsense. It was only when I had a hysterectomy at 41 yrs old, due to constant fibroids that I found out I had a bi-cornuate womb and could never had children anyway.  There are many women with Crohn's who have had healthy babies...just make sure your gastro keeps your Crohn's under control and your baby will be fine. What joyous news that you are pregnant and I wish for you a healthy pregnancy and a beautiful child.

Liz.
