sigmoid colon

I am a 57 year old female who recently had a colonoscopy. The results stated I have Colitis and diverticulosis of the sigmoid colon. The only symptoms prior to the test were intermittent diarrhea and pain in my left side. I go for my follow-up in in a week with my Dr. Should I watch my diet and what else should I be aware of?

Hi there!

Typically high fiber diet is advisable for diverticulosis, however since this has presented as an acute episode of in inflammation, a high fiber diet is best avoided till the inflammation subsides. I would suggest keeping the diet soft with plenty of fluids along with the medications prescribed by your doctor, for the time being.
Hope this is helpful.

Take care!
