stringy stools

my mother is 89 years old and has alzheimer's. Lately, she has long stringy stools and stomache pains.  Doctor seems to think it could be miralax. Was giving miralex due to constipation.  What could be going on?

Make sure she is taking in enough liquid especailly water that is the key when using laxatives. I worked in an alzheimers treatment unit for twenty years and know it can be a challenge just to get them to drink or eat.
Alzheimers is a horrible disease.
