‘Break’ the NRA or your mass shootings will never stop

BBC host Aaron Heslehurst advised Americans this week that they would have to “break” or “dismantle” the National Rifle Association (NRA) if they wanted the mass shootings in the United States to stop.

On Wednesday’s Morning Business Report, BBC presenter Adnan Nawaz pointed out that journalists still did not have all of the details about the shooting in San Bernardino.

There have been more mass shootings in the United States this year than there have been days this year,” Nawaz noted. “We’re at about 330-odd days with 350+ mass shootings. And it’s becoming far too common as far as almost any sensible person including President Obama is concerned.”

Columnist Maike Currie agreed that the figures were “staggering.”

“Obama has said this is not normal, this shouldn’t be considered as normal,” she explained. “And Hillary Clinton has said the same thing. And on her presidential campaign, gun control is actually one of the key things she’s looking at.”

Nawaz observed that Clinton was unlikely to put in place new gun safety measures because Congress would block her.

“The thing that everyone points to is the Second Amendment,” Currie said. “But the Second Amendment was set up in 1789. That was a different world then and something needs to be done about this.”

Heslehurst revealed his own “staggering” statistics: “In the last 43 years, more Americans have been shot by another American — shot and killed by another American — than all of America’s soldiers killed in wars in the last 240 years.”

“And you go where’s the priority?” he asked. “You talk about Congress — NRA, right? If Clinton really wants to get serious, that’s what you have to try to break, dismantle.”

You'll be hard pressed to break the NRA.  You'll have just as hard of a time trying to break all of the anti-gun lobbyists.  As long as these two entities can convince the people that there are only 2 sides, either worth fighting for,  they keep themselves in business and getting paid.  Everyone wants a pay check.

I loathe and despise the NRA as much as I do any front group using corporate money to buy politicians. But I don't see anyone else standing up for my right to defend my home and family, and that's a bitter pill.

Also not a huge fan of open carry or even concealed carry, but again, until the world becomes a safer place I won't deny anyone who feels the need the right to do so.

The good thing about concealed carry is, you'd never know if someone was carrying.  the good news about open carry is, you know at least that guy is carrying.

For one BBC has no say or standing in America. That is like the NY Times writing about and have a say in Scotland succession from England.

The 2 AR-15's used in Cali were not registered to the terrorists, so once again an illegal weapon.

I'm not a big fan of the NRA, but 39.2% of guns used to kill Americans are purchased illegally off the street or through straw-man purchases by family members or friends (39.6%).

"Most gun violence is between criminals. This should be the public policy focus."

NRA does not advocate the purchase, or use, of illegal guns of any kind.

“Obama has said this is not normal, this shouldn’t be considered as normal,”   For once I agree with him, yet, he seems to consider the violence of ISIS as evil that must be accepted.

I'm no fan of the NRA either but as dsert said below, they are essentially the only group fighting for my rights and they are fighting against hundreds of groups and individuals.

Sad isnt it?

America has something like 88 guns per 100 people and in the lead, second place is yemen with 56 guns per 100 people, and in third place I think was Switzerland with something like 44 guns per 100 people, with more people dying from gun deaths in America. And yet, we are supposed to be the most free, most priviledged country in the world. Staggering is right.

Actually Serbia is #2 on the list followed by Yemen and Switzerland.  Using the same criteria, there are 9 countries with more gun crimes than America.  That doesn't make what we are up against any more tolerable, either.

These words grabbed my eyes causing me to post.
