American Dream..?
Do you think the American Dream still exists and will it exist in the future ,that Immigrant like myself will come to be part of it, are we in decline as many think we are ,certainly after the year 2009 and yes we do know it started before that ..when Europe was in decline they had America to prop them up, who will prop us up? we have always been there for the world , yet I fear no one will be there for us ...certainly not the nations this administration is seeking to befriend ...
I hope that this administration will deal with illegal immigration soon (hopefully not amnesty across the board), which could open up some jobs, along with alternate energy source jobs (maybe someday not being dependant on foreign oil and better for the environment). I know a lot of the jobs that the illegals do aren't the most desirable jobs, but they're jobs. Here in Florida we even see them taking a lot of the good jobs from Americans, especially in all areas of the construction business. I think if they were to crack down on employers hiring illegals, we'd be surprised at how many jobs would open up. I don't see many/any of our leaders from either party that want to deal with the immigration issue the way most people want it dealt with. I just know here in Florida, illegal workers are hurting the job market.

I totally agree with Mary, I always enjoy reading ILAdvocate's posts too. Even though I don't always agree, one must respect Advocates insight and intelligence on the issues.
I enjoy reading your posts. Your point of view is always backed by intelligent, factual information. I don't always agree, but your posts are always thought provoking. Maybe you could help us get back to healthy debate's on important issues.
I would say that the Economic Stimulus Act is bankrupting America and that no new jobs are being created. The difficulty is that president Obama inherited this reccession which may very well have been caused by the deregulation of the banking industry. Americans as a whole have a right to know where their money is being invested. The economic reforms as regards investment that were created in the depression to combat this never should have been overturned. Regardless of that any money used to create jobs should be used with the consent of the American public at large and also should be creating permanent jobs, not just temporary work. I agree that people who lost their jobs should have their unemployment insurance extended but when it eventually is lost it will be a rude awakening when that expires. I also think it is a strategy to placate people and keep them from realizing there are no true economic reforms being made. I just believe that this is not the first administration to do that. I may not agree with some of what people post but I am an independent thinker and can easily see many reasons why the economy continues to spiral downwards and also why the massive deficit was created in the past administration to begin with.
YES thats the way to go... I live in a democratic area so the last Tea Party was amazing ..so many folks there, with lots of super banners, unlike to reported violence lies by the left wing media , we did our thing, told the truth ,sang signed a lot of petitions and were extremly Patriotic, flags everywhere .it was great I am now promising myself this year to put my 'money where my mouth is' ,and fly to Washington for the next big March......
I hope they get those going in my area soon. At least we can let them know we don't like it, and will not be led to the slaughter like docile sheep.
I think we will vote them out , all of them ...OUT in 3 years , we wont stand by and watch, Peg ,we will fight at the ballot box, no violence we have not been violent. Tea Parties are starting here soon, we go to as many as we can letting our voice against this Government be heard..we do not give up EVER .There is going to be another big march on Washington soon, not certain of the date ..
What makes this so bad for those of us that are very patriotic, love our country and the values that it USED to uphold, don't know what to do? We feel helpless and guilty to just stand by and watch them take this country and turn it into the soviet republic of the USA.

Well, Margy, if they call us Socialist, because we don't want them to own us, I guess they wouldn't have a problem calling us racist. They want the borders wide open to people they don't even know what they are. We are training our enemies, educating them, and we are suppose to just say everything is oky doky! Then they want to line up every person in America that wants to fly and treat them like crimnals. Invade our bodies and we are open to being grabbed in the plane if we have to go to the bathroom at an inconvient time, being knocked down on the floor and hand-cuffed.

Yes, specialmom, I have never felt this way either. There used to be such patriotism, and honor for this Country and our Freedoms and Rights. The Flag was displayed proudly. The Ten Commandments were posted as a reminder that murder, lies and other bad things were wrong. People can have different gods, but morals should be the same. From childhood, schools teach there is no right and no wrong, do what you want, defy parents and Church, they help students get birth control, and we have no idea what else, while we think they are in classes. Graduates come out and can't read or write, but no child left behind, does not mean teach until the child understands and learns, just push them up with everyone else. Every time we think the government is doing something good, they have pork (pigs--dirt) inside those ideas.
I came from a farming area. The people worked hard, love their Country, but trusted blindly in authorities.
Now, the Flag has been burned, and disallowed in certain areas, the Pledge of Allegiance is being stopped. We praised God for it, now it is becoming a Humanistic Flag. Our foundation should not change, because we now have such diversion. Those that want to enjoy what this Nation has, should honor our Foundation. Hiding it by taking away words does not change the Foundation. If you pull the Foundation out from under a House it will fall. We have a House, and the Foundation is being pulled out from under it in this Nation. Chaos is hiding what goes on behind closed doors. I read a paper from another Country that stated, though the father of the Christmas Bomber went to the Embassy over a week or more several times, not once, the US was well aware of him, yet they did nothing. Their authorities contacted the US before allowing him on a plane, and the US OKed it. They said the blame is on the US because they could have stopped it. So, it tends to make us wonder why it was allowed and look at the results of that ride. Did it have an affect on the entire Country? Yes, more control.
I disagree IAdvocate about the American Dream. Times change and things do get more complex, but in a Free Country, people can have hope to advance to their dreams. In a government dominated country, that is where there is hopelessness, no dreams, no peace, only fear. Americans have always fought for preservation of freedom for others. No one wants to send their loved ones in harms way. Americans do not want to send our own citizens in harm's way. It hurts to see caskets and disabled troops come home and those that are affected mentally. When we look at the Flag, there is a red color that stand for all that have given for Freedom. If we turn our backs on others that need it, what does that make us and where will it take us. The bad seed grows and the good seeds die. Innocent men, women and children are being tortured and murdered, living in fear. The Jews were slaughtered. We have not fought enough. If we draw out and let the monster grow, it will take us over. We are already invaded on our own soil, and Americans are dying, here. As human beings, how can we turn our heads from the people that are being slaughtered by the enemies. Being "politically correct" will destroy us. The enemy has invaded our own Armed Forces. That is disgracefull. We can't be weak. If we want to remain a Free Country, we will always have to fight to keep it. We think how horrible it is when a news flash goes across the tv of a child that was raped and killed. That is happening now, to those our enemies are attacking. When those gain strength that do it, we will see it on our own streets. We have not even had a small taste of it on this soil, yet. As a Nation, we cannot turn our heads. It will cost us to fight, but it will cost a lot more not to.

While reading the last three posts, I am feeling devastated . . . I know it is all the truth. It is exactly how I feel with the words I didn't have to say it. How many people feel so let down now? In my adult life----- for as long as I've been a productive member of society . . . I have never felt as I do now. So simply put, the American Dream is being snuffed out before our eyes.

Personally, I think the American Dream is gone. Working hard to get somewhere can't exist with spreading the wealth. Why would I spend my energy trying to work for a home and happiness, then give it to someone that is out for a free ride. Everyone has the right to work, rather we were. Yes things were not in the best of shape when Obama went it, but every strategy he has used has dug us deeper and given more control to the government. He backs a bill that was so bad, his own party voted for it because their votes were bought, and right out for us to see. The bill is not going to help us. We will have co-pays, deductibles, lack of coverage, pay taxes on it, be fined if it is not acceptable, and need additional coverage to cover our needs, which is paid out of our pockets. IRS will collect all that is due. They will decide what is and is not allowed for treatment. You name it. There will be so many Committees appointed to watch it all, we will be paying their salaries, too.
So, put the blame where it lies. Printing money, more and more, raising the debt to the ceiling, raising it , to raise it, government control the decisions of care, hanging a "Holiday ball" on the "Holiday tree" of a dictator, and a picture of Obama on Mt.Rushmore in the White House. Why hang it on a tree? Just take down all the pictures of Freedom Fighters from our History and just replace the picture with their heros. All that Obama promised, he has done the opposite. Spending money like there is no tomorrow, he said he would not do. Straighten out Washington so the people knew what they were doing so it would be on the up and up. Well, we can't see behind doors, so I guess that was another one. Those were his decisions, not Bush. Things he accused Bush of, he has out done him. If I had the space, I'd list quite a few more. Maybe some of us need to go back and look at the Obama campaign again. I have, and in a matching game of promises v. actions, it doesn't. There is no way of denying his actions. Actions speak louder than words. He promised NOT but YES, he does.

I think the health care bill was being concentrated on in order to keep the news and our minds off other, more important things.
I do feel that jobs and the economy should be concentrated on ,finally, health care could have waited it doesnt kick in for over 3 years ,but we'll be paying. .they also havent been taking care of our security too well so thats now up there ,I hope , on their ' list of priorities...
I think it is so sad that we have to find ourselves asking these questions and they are not just being negative but truth. Butterfly, you are so right----- those that are meant to take care of us via a million promises keep letting us down---- so in the end, we only have ourselves. I'll never give up hope. But each time I think I've seen the worst . . . something else comes along. Very disheartening.
Agreed... 2010 may very well be a year of reckoning... and a year of awakening.

Being honest I could also feel a great sadness that it could 'be slipping away, maybe what I came here for was always written in the wind , what started a long time ago and has been fed by these radicals who have waited till the time was right ...maybe the inevitable is happening ,2010 is going to be a year of reckoning I think ,I hope ...

Although, at times, it would appear that we have lost sight of the American Dream,
we always seem to find our way back on track of towards that dream.
So, yes... I do believe that the dream lives and will continue to flourish in the hearts
and minds of Americans and immigrants alike.
But, who could we count upon in our own time of need? I suspect... only ourselves.
