You are so correct El. And for so many the pull of that addiction is stronger then the individual.  I know so many who tell me how much easier it is to just give in.  I have the absolute utmost respect and admiration for those struggling to beat that demon.  I know those of you who are fighting it work daily to keep it at bay.  Good on you El.  It takes a very very strong person to do what you did.  I wish you continued sobriety.  I just wish they could come up with something to make it easier.

Addiction takes yet another life...

Out of the 78 people I went through treatment (rehab) with, there have been 16 deaths. That's 20'ish percent (math was never my strong'suit, so correct me if I'm wrong).

A couple of suicides. A couple of alcohol/drug related automobile accidents. But the overwhelming majority, are OD's (OverDoses).

Treatment/rehab doesn't necessarily mean you're going to get & stay clean. Like any other major life change... you have to WANT it.

You can't MAKE a smoker quit smoking. You can't MAKE a a thief stop stealing. You can't MAKE a liar stop lying.

a) They need treatment, and b) They have to WANT to make the change in their life.

Simply going to rehab isn't an automatic "Okay... I'm not an addict anymore". The person has to WANT it, and they have to seek AFTERCARE and follow up treatment, of some type (ie: meetings, sponsor, prayer & meditation, etc, etc...)

RIP Amy Weinhouse. Be at peace Sister.

   Yes I don't know quite that much about her either but sometimes drugs can be a form of self medication and for at least some celebrities its what happens that can push them to have this creative energy (to perform, talent is another issue). I know for some (there are lists of those who were diagnosed and disclosed) it is from when they are experiencing some aspects of bipolar (or other psychiatric disabilities) as for example Britney Spears. The acting out behavior can be part of that as well. As regarding substance abuse there is no direct treatment for that but hopefully that will change. Also for all the celebrities that experience this are many everyday people that do as well but people are not aware of it but may react similarly.
  Also because of the stigmatization of what people experience its rare to have someone follow up with rehab and treatment and discuss it at the time. Most who disclosed are generally after their career ends. I do wish some fans of celebrities (and paparazzi especially) wouldn't feed and exploit this type of behavior. I knew someone who had originals of the Life Magazine photos of Elizabeth Taylor before she through rehab and I really don't find that kind of intrusion into a person's life necessary. I hope this encourages more people to follow up and seek help when they can.

It is a shame.  She was given a healthy body and a profound talent, but drugs took it all away.  In the mean time, I have a 34 year old niece who is fighting for her life because of a tumor and cerebral palsy caused by scar tissue.....

What a freakin waste of life. 27 years old. Her life was just starting. I guess it just goes to show that money doesnt make one happy. It makes me really sad to hear this.

Addiction is such a powerful thing.  I can't say I could even name a single song of hers, but still...to see a beautiful 27 year old women gone at the prime of her life makes me so so sad.  I hope someday we come up with a treatment that beats this thing once and for all.  So many lives lost.  May she rest in peace.

I’m sorry she is dead but I didn’t think she was very talented. I do find it Ironic this was her biggest hit.

Police sources have confirmed her passing, Nick Buckley tweeted, adding that: "Found at her North London home at 3.54pm. Drink and drugs overdose suspected."


It is so sad...So young and talented. Drugs, they just RUIN lives....

Sorry to sound calloused but I think she died a couple of years ago but her body has so many drugs in it, it took this long for it to lay down.

A press release from the Metropolitan Police, which doesn't specifically name Winehouse, says:

"Police were called by London Ambulance Service to an address in Camden Square NW1 shortly before 16.05hrs today, Saturday 23 July, following reports of a woman found deceased.

On arrival officers found the body of a 27-year-old female who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Enquiries continue into the circumstances of the death. At this early stage it is being treated as unexplained."

Last month, Winehouse canceled her European tour after a performance in Serbia where she seemed completely out of it.

British singer Amy Winehouse was reportedly found dead in her home in north London, Sky News reported. She was 27.

In June, the Grammy Award winner had checked out of a treatment program in London. Her spokesman Chris Goodman had said the entertainer had been looking forward to touring Europe this summer.

Winehouse's breakthrough disc, 2006's "Back to Black," won her five Grammy Awards and helped her achieve worldwide stardom, but her music had been overshadowed by drug use and run-ins with the law.
