BRPD Arrest Pregnant Female For Possession of Heroin, Xanax

Baton Rouge Police have arrested a 26-year-old female for possession of Schedule 4 Drugs and Possession of Schedule 1 Drugs after finding her passed out in a vehicle on Plank Rd. Saturday night.

According to a report, BRPD was dispatched to 3800 Plank Rd. to investigate a vehicle parked at that location around 8:15pm January 18th. The officer located Krista Miller inside the vehicle, unresponsive. The report noted that Miller had a tourniquet around her right arm and a needle sitting on the console of the vehicle. Miller was awoken and read her rights.

EMS was called to the scene to evaluate Miller, who was 7 months pregnant at the time of the incident.

During a search of Miller’s vehicle investigators discovered Xanax and Heroin inside of a black pouch.

Miller was booked on the above listed charges and transported to EBR Parish Prison. She is currently being held in lieu of a $10,000 bond.

And another, in S.C..
It amazes me since the crack down on Dr.s writing Pain Meds, how fast Heroin is making a come back. There has been about 4 deaths here in Baton Rouge in the last 9 months and Lord only knows how many arrests. Only about a year ago, we heard very little about herion in this area.

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A 30-year-old mother is behind bars after police say she was found passed out in her car with heroin and a freshly used needle at her side, while her child slept in the back seat.
According to an incident report, North Charleston police responded to the area of 4840 Tanger Outlet Blvd. around 9:55 p.m. after a woman and child were found unresponsive inside a vehicle.

Police say a belt was wrapped around the woman's right thumb in a tourniquet fashion. Next to the woman was a large spoon with an off-white powder on, a needle that appeared to be freshly used, and the woman's driver's license, which also had powder on it, the report states.

The license identified the woman as Amanda Joy Robinson of West Ashley.

After a few minutes of calling out the woman's name and gently shaking her arm, Robinson reportedly woke up but "appeared to be extremely out of it." Police say she was "extremely uneasy on her feet" after being ordered from the car, and was confused as to where she was.

The report states Robinson was detained after becoming disorderly and shouting profanities.

Because it took a long time to wake up the child, he was transported to a hospital where he would later be turned over to his grandparents, according to the incident report. Robinson was also taken to a medical care center before being transferred to the Charleston County Detention Center.

Officers say the powder tested positive for heroin, and a second needle was found inside the vehicle.

Robinson has been charged with possession of heroin and ill treatment of a child.

What people don’t understand is   Hydrocodone is an Opiate (Heroin). The Government has cracked down on the Dr.s and now Heroin is making a major come back. People that used to buy Loratab, Percacet, Vicoden, etc. can now buy Heroin cheaper. As you know the more you take, the more you need. But you also grow to hate it. I understand the addiction to both Hydrocodone and Running Heroin (been there, done that, and almost died from it) but I have no sympathy for anyone willing to take an innocent down with them. There is free help out there. At 7 months, she should be held in Detox until the Baby is born so, hopefully the Baby will not be born an addict. If the baby is born “deformed”, she should be held accountable.
On another note, I blame the Medical Profession for writing Prescriptions of Pain Meds like they were Skittles. They should also be held accountable for what they have created.

It's bad enough that she's addicted, herself, but having unborn child addicted makes it even worse yet... I hope the courts will force her to get inpatient treatment, if that's an option in your state.  Don't need another baby born into that situation.

El - we got where you were coming from...I'm glad you had a supportive family and friends; let's hope this gal does too.

Not saying I condone what this woman is doing/did, but I can certainly empathize with her.

Doing things that one KNOWS is harmful, will have dire consequences, or will ruin your life or worse, the life of another, goes with the territory of addiction.

Been there.
Done that.
Bought a t-shirt.

I woke up one day and said "no more", and sought help (which came in the form of inpatient treatment). Mine was addiction to Rx pain medication, taken for 20+ years, as a result of my constant/regular kidney-stone bouts. Not trying to make excuses for my use/abuse, but I know that some people (myself included) become "addicted" to medication inadvertently, then have NO idea how to stop.

I'm lucky, in that I had the support of my friends and family, in both my treatment and recovery. A lot of addicts (the vast majority) donh't have support, and don't know any other way, so they continue, even though they KNOW it's harmful/detrimental.

Sorry, rambling. Hopefully if you're reading this, you know what i'm getting at.

Again, not saying that what she did was okay. It's just that I understand how she got to where she is.

I feel sad for her, and her unborn child.
