Never ceases to amaze me how it's always someone else who is the "misguided" one...

It shouldn't amaze you because you don't really get it.

"Smith says playing the race card for political gain in a state like Georgia that’s seen its share of racial tensions is not only patronizing but dangerous.

“They are treating black constituents as though we are uneducated. It’s emotional abuse,” Smith said."

Pretty much the point I was trying to make - as far as I'm concerned this whole black vote/ID issue is very insulting to black people.  It assumes that they don't have the wherewithal to get themselves to the DMV to get their ID, then get themselves to the voting precinct to vote... There are exceptions made for those who are disabled, etc - they can vote by mail, they can get rides, there are numerous options and they aren't given credit for being able to figure out what those options are.

If they don't like the idea that the police force and city representatives, etc in places like Ferguson, MO are white, while the population is predominately black, they're going to step up and join the police forces and run for public offices.  Some counties here in FL have a fund from which they pay the fee for people who can't afford to run for county offices, so everyone who wants to run, can run.

Georgia Dems face backlash over flier urging vote to ‘prevent another Ferguson’
Shown here is an image from a flier being circulated by Georgia Democrats.

A new mailer being circulated in Georgia by the state’s Democratic Party is drawing criticism for linking the shooting of a black teenager in Ferguson, Mo., to the upcoming elections.

The mailer, which uses images of black children holding signs that say, “Don’t shoot,” reads: “If you want to prevent another Ferguson in their future … Vote.”

That message isn’t sitting well with some who say Democrats in the state have gone too far.

“It’s extremely insulting and deceptive,” Leo Smith, state director of minority engagement for the Georgia GOP, told FoxNews.com Wednesday. “What the Democratic Party of Georgia has done is almost unfathomable.”

Smith says playing the race card for political gain in a state like Georgia that’s seen its share of racial tensions is not only patronizing but dangerous.

“They are treating black constituents as though we are uneducated. It’s emotional abuse,” Smith said.

A copy of the mailer, first reported by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, also shows a man on the street in front of police flares. The mailer cites the August killing of 18-year-old Michael Brown, and notes that the city population is mostly black – while the police force and city government leadership are mostly white.

The mailer reads, “What are we going to do about it? If we want a better, safer future for our children, it’s up to us to vote for change. The choices may not always be perfect, but the cost of inaction is simply too great.”

Michael Smith, the communications director for the Georgia Democratic Party, told FoxNews.com that voter registration pushes are vital to the election process but did not comment on whether additional Ferguson-themed mailers would be sent out.

“The fight for the right to vote and for every vote to be counted is part of our state’s history, a part of the fabric that makes Georgia what it is today,” he said in a written statement. “Our state and our democracy is stronger when more people participate. And we have seen what happens in places like Ferguson, Missouri, when voices are silenced.”

Minority turnout is key for Democrats in close races in key states like Georgia and North Carolina which could determine the balance of power in the U.S. Senate.

Like Democrats, Republicans also have expanded their minority outreach using aggressive get-out-the-vote campaigns in states like Georgia and Kentucky.

Democrats see Georgia Senate candidate Michelle Nunn as one of their best chances to win a seat and have redirected resources to the state. Both parties have spent millions in voter registration campaigns there.

While black voters were key in electing President Obama and re-electing him in 2012, fewer black voters have showed up to the polls during midterm elections. During the 2010 elections, Georgia Republicans swept every statewide office and solidified their hold in the state legislature. During those elections, 441,000 few black voters cast ballots than had when Obama was elected. While the number bounced back some during Obama’s 2012 re-election, it's still lower than it was.

Fighting for the minority vote in Georgia has led to name-calling and bold exchanges by both parties in the past few weeks, though the latest mailers from Georgia Democrats have some questioning just how far the parties will go to spread their message.

Smith says the fliers linking Ferguson to voting could actually backfire.

“What the Democratic Party of Georgia has done is disassociated voting from reality,” he said. “To associate voting for a Republican with the tragedy in Ferguson is unheard of.”

When asked what the Georgia GOP would do in response, Smith said, “We will win.”

I'm offended by this article, and it's implications. You know, being 1/2 black and all.

So Mike... am I misguided?

Come on. Tell me how silly I am. And how stupid my opinions are. And how I'm a liar. Please?!?

Yep, I get genius - has nothing to do with race, just demographics, ethnic, religious groups and genders... and yes, it's called politics - that most of us wouldn't even think of getting involved in because it has nothing to do with anything most of us would have any reason to be involved in..

So I stand "misguided"... NOT...

"Why are they concentrating on the blacks?  That is racist... "

Good question...  You're right, it IS racist and pretty sad to think that one ethnic group can make or break an entire political party...

You aren't serious - are you?
Yeah, you probably are....but very misguided.

Appealing to a certain demographic or ethnic groups or religious groups or gender is in a word "POLITICS"!

I'm guessing that they might be concentrating on blacks because many of the Hispanics are here illegally and of course, some of them aren't even here yet and with all the "to do" over ID's - well, you know ...lol

I can tell you what its like to vote for someone and not against someone.  You won't like that outcome either. Be careful for what you wish for.  I have a small sneaky suspicion that some folks really, really know what I am talking about.

I'm beginning to wonder the same thing - what it's like to vote "FOR" someone instead of "AGAINST" someone else - to really be able to get behind someone and believe in what they stand for.  Seems like it's been a while since I've been able to do that.  And when one does come along that you think will do right, they turn into a crook as soon as the lobbyists get hold of them... pretty sad state of affairs.

It looks like my choice for Senate is Bill Cassidy or  Mary Landrieu. Even though Mary I has gotten my vote  in the past, she has forced me to Vote against her this round. I wish I knew what it felt like to Vote For someone instead of Against someone.

Yes, we are silly - we need that sometimes...   lol   I vote on election day as always - we don't usually have very long lines in our precinct. When we voted in the primary, there was hardly anyone there.  Also, being retired, we no longer have to wait until we're off work, like many people do, so we can pick our time and stand in line if need be.  Love to walk out with that "I voted" sticker...  lol

Yeah, lesser of two evils... hate to vote that way, but I guess this wouldn't be the first time and probably not the last.  But then on the other hand, that fake tan Charlie wears is kind of creepy, too.. LOL

This is one of those lesser of two evils. Your not voting for someone as much as your voting against. I just despise Scott. And he  is creepy lookin on top of it. rofl

No, we have to go up, but I can't believe Charlie Crist can take us there, just by changing parties, when he dragged us down the first time... do you?  lol

I don't think anything is a "done deal" until the votes are counted.

As far as getting rid of Rick Scott, I totally agree, but we already had Charlie Crist and he was just as bad... Just because he ran the gamut of parties (from Republican to Independent and now to Democrat) doesn't mean he's any different now, than he was then. Where do we go from here?
