Not really, they have them now that run off of Gas Cartriges. All you have to do is tie the saftey back and you have a Semi Automatic.

I think pneumatic nailers are exempt.  Every once in a while you see an ex-ray of some nut in the ER with a nail stuck through his melon.  I think I've only heard of one pneumatic nailer attack and there are a couple million of them in use today.....

Maybe we can start by Universal Background Checks for anyone buying a Hammer and limit them to Curved Claw and 16oz Max. Hey it’s a start.

Went over her head, Brice.

No way you're going to get her to concede the point, that hammers are more of a problem than "assault weapons".

IMO, hammers need to be regulated more stringently. Either that, or hammer manufacturers need to start looking at ways of making their products safer.

Maybe a plastic hammer? A rubber hammer? A Teflon® hammer? OR, maybe banning them altogether, and making carpenters, and the like, revert back to sticks & stones? Everything was so simple before the Bronze Age brought us modern metallurgy...

"Why hammers?"  Because even a convicted felon can carry a hammer.

"In the same year 496 people were killed using hammers."

Who are these people, carpenters? Why hammers?

I'm not trying to fight with you.  You know that right?
I am having a hard time figuring out why, if by the numbers alone (hammers v.s. guns) why you aren't more concerned about the hammers than the guns?

I am doing my best to understand your logic....  I need all of the help I can get from you on this.  Why not the same outrage against hammers?  They have killed more people than guns.....

I'm not disputing your link and the facts...I just simply countered...

"There is absolutely you are okay with more people being killed with hammers.  No way, if you are talking about killings alone."

Of course I'm not..the number of 819 was a total of those killed both by guns and a hammer...I think its ALL senseless...

If you'll reference the link I posted again, I think you will find Switzerland, an
advanced country by all means, where 1 in every 2 people owns a gun.... they have nearly no gun crime.

The link completely comes from a conservative view, but they are facts... facts from the FBI.  The FBI is not the NRA or George Bush....  Those are the facts ma'am.

There is absolutely you are okay with more people being killed with hammers.  No way, if you are talking about killings alone.

I agee.. I read the link but it does come from a conservative view....

"Connecticut ALREADY HAD an Assault Weapons Ban, so how could implementing a National Ban have prevented the Sandy Hook tragedy?"

If that is so, how was he able to get an AR then? ....This is a part of the problem...

"According to the FBI:
In 2011 323 people were killed using “Assault Weapons”
In the same year 496 people were killed using hammers."

That's 819 too many....senseless...

I respect your response as well. I believe this is one of those agree to disagree situations but at least we can do it friendly. I just read the link Wallace posted and found many interesting facts and quotes you might find interesting as well. I will also read the wiki link you posted but from the second paragraph above it looks like more of a comparison to other countries and this is about assault weapons/deaths/crime in the U.S.

I just copied 2 facts from Wallace's link regarding the U.S. and assault weapons below that I found interesting.

Connecticut ALREADY HAD an Assault Weapons Ban, so how could implementing a National Ban have prevented the Sandy Hook tragedy?

In the same year 496 people were killed using hammers.

Here's a counter to your link...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_violence_in_the_United_States

In 2005, 75% of the 10,100 homicides committed using firearms in the United States were committed using handguns, compared to 4% with rifles, 5% with shotguns, and the rest with unspecified firearms.[49] The likelihood that a death will result is significantly increased when either the victim or the attacker has a firearm.[50] For example, the mortality rate for gunshot wounds to the heart is 84%, compared to 30% for people who sustain stab wounds to the heart.[51]

The incidence of homicides committed with a firearm in the US is much greater than most other advanced countries. In the United States in 2009 United Nations statistics record 3.0 intentional homicides committed with a firearm per 100,000 inhabitants; for comparison, the figure for the United Kingdom, with where handguns are prohibited was 0.07 per 100,000, about 40 times lower, and for Germany 0.2.[52]

Thanks for that link.  It's mostly information that I knew already.  Unfortunately, I don't think it will travel far here.  I wish it would.

Do not let the name in the link scare you.  Information in the article was collected from the FBI and other sources.

Thx for answering:)..I respect your responses. I do still feel that the 2nd amendment right of the American People and responsible gun owners are not being Violated. I also feel (as a gun owner) that the laws are good ones and they will curb some of these senseless act..Let's all remember, AR's were banned already and every responsible gun owner still went about there business. It did not effect their lives in any negative way...

I was thinking along the same lines. Both the Dems & Repubs know the Gun Laws are not going anywhere but it is a great deterrent to keep our minds from Healthcare & The Economy. It wouldn’t surprise me if they have a Bi-Partisan committee whose job is to do nothing but Create Crises. They probably High Five each other and say ”that should keep them busy for a few weeks.”

It sounds like a big money game to me. On both sides of the issue. People dont have access to health care as it is, so how does that work? Sounds like nothing but a bunch of excuses. It is much more common for someone to get a script and be sent on their way than getting any counseling for the issue and the gun advocates are only padding their pockets as well imo.

He mentioned that someone with depression will not be tagged as a potential threat  (that would be well over half the population, I think!)
If more disenfranchised people who are dealing with serious demons of their own have ready access to therapy and /or meds and who can be closely monitored (as opposed to being given a prescription and an appointment for a 3 month follow up) it may serve as a preventative measure for some.

He also made a point that others have made that the mental health system is seriously deficient and has been for decades and that is where the focus should be.
I agree with that too to a certain extent but wonder how they will deal with that. for example, will they ban anyone taking anti depressants or taken them in the past from buying/owning a gun? Keep in mind I don't know for a fact but only imagine some policeman are on ad's so I wonder how they will draw the line there as far as labeling someone mentally unstable...
