Iran nuke talks

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/02/19/iran-nuclear-talks_n_2716903.html

TEHRAN, Iran -- Iran is prepared to ease Western concerns about Tehran's nuclear program in exchange for pledges from the U.S. and others about the country's ability to enrich uranium, Iran's foreign ministry spokesman said Tuesday.
The remarks signaled a possible opening before next week's talks with world powers, due in the Kazakhstan capital.
The West has been reluctant to make clear declarations on Iran's nuclear "rights" in previous negotiations last year that ended in stalemate. Tehran is seeking international acknowledgment that its uranium enrichment program is acceptable within the U.N. treaty governing the spread of nuclear technology – a treaty that Iran has signed.
The U.S. and allies fear Iran's enrichment program could lead to atomic weapons; Tehran says its nuclear fuel is only for energy-producing reactors and medical applications.
The talks last year hit an impasse over Iran's highest-level enrichment, at 20 percent, which can be rapidly converted to weapons grade material. Iran says it needs the 20 percent uranium for its medical research reactor. It also produces lower-enriched uranium at 3.5 percent for its Russian-build electricity reactor.
Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast told reporters on Tuesday that an important "opportunity" awaits next week's talks in Kazakhstan between Iran and a six-nation group, the five permanent U.N. Security Council members and Germany.
"We will offer ways for removing possible concerns and ambiguities to show our goodwill, if Western countries, especially the U.S., fully recognize the nuclear rights of countries, which shows their goodwill," he said.
"Same-level, same-weight" mutual actions can be followed by Iran to reach an "understanding point," Mehmanparast added.
Earlier this month, U.S. Vice President Joe Biden said Washington was ready to hold one-on-one talks with Iran, an offer that was later rejected by Iranian leaders.
On Saturday, Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said his country was not seeking nuclear weapons, but that if Tehran intended to build them, the U.S. couldn't stop it.

I don't know if its true or not but I could of sworn I heard Biden recently sent word to Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei that they didn't need nukes and could get by with a double barrel shotgun...course that's just hearsay... If only everyone would just stick with hammers...

"in exchange for pledges"
"remarks signaled"
"next week's talks"
"clear declarations"
"talks last year"

Talk, talk, talk, talk, talk.......

What does it mean without inspections?

I hate to call anyone's  'supreme spiritual leader' a lying sack of potatoes, but it's either that or he has as little control over his military and as little idea of what they're doing as Chinese politicians supposedly have.

Seems like that has been all we hear about, talk and sanctions and we see where that has got us.

I agree gene. They are a little like North Korea...how do you talk to fanatics?

On the other hand, it would e good to avoid a war with these countries, I almost think they would like to engage us in warfare sometimes, the way they make provocative statements. But they must know it would be the end for them...I just don't get their game.

It's crazy isn't it?

" I almost think they would like to engage us in warfare sometimes "

Right, just like N. Korea.  I know nobody, dems or repubs want to go to another war but I don't think anyone wants or would feel to safe if Iran had the capability of hitting a U.S. target with nukes either.
N. Korea's really pushing it too right now aren't they?

They published on the web a pic. (photo shopped) of a nuke hitting NYC.
I would definitely call them insane...and dangerous.

I am sure there are better links...but I need to leave soon and didn't want to search long.

I think the answer may be in covert operations, like what happened a year or two ago. An Israeli agent took out a head nuclear scientist while he was on his way to work in Iran. A lot better than bombing a city of innocents.
Of course, they are closely guarded now, but there are ways...
I hope they can keep it contained like that ut it is real scary to think that Iran and N. Korea would work together.
What do they have in common? Nothing but their mutual hatred of the West.

Exactly!

" I think the answer may be in covert operations, like what happened a year or two ago. "

Are you sure your not a closet right winger?lol

Hahaha!

It's not right or left really. It's just common sense.
If we did survive a nuclear bomb, who would want to live under those fanatics?
I do believe there is a time to fight, a time for war. But really the only war that has really seemed justified to me was WW2.
I would love to see things done more efficiently, without the collateral damage war brings if possible. If it can be pulled off, covert is the way to go,imo.
Diplomacy is just a game to the leaders of those two countries.

Just seeing the words "nuclear" and "Iran" in the same sentence is terrifying.  I wouldn't trust Iran's leaders at all...I still say, they are going to have to be dealt with.  Scary.

What really scares me is the connection between Iran and N. Korea...just what game are they playing?

When Germany and Japan were in cohoots, I imagine such tiny countries didn't seem like much of a threat especially because the leaders seemed too crazy to be credible.
I don't say it will be the same thing but they both really like the nuclear war concept.

The connection between Iran and N. Korea is scary rivll, not just scary but down right dangerous. A guest on a news show ( ok fox news but it shouldn't discredit this ) said basically any nuke technology N. Korea has, will end up in Iran if it hasn't already. They also said its entirely possible Iran is helping them right now.

speaking of covert, do you think Israel is going to wait much longer?

They recently killed an Iranian Commander in Syria who was part of a transport of bombs/weapons on the way to Hezbollah who are situated in Lebanon. Hezbollah is supported by the Iranian regime.

They don't take credit for the bombing of the transport or the killing of the General just like they didn't take credit for killing the Nuclear scientist in Iran or the small nuclear facility that they took out...for obvious reasons. Still everyone knows they are doing it.

I don't know if the worst can be avoided but I do trust one thing...Israeli Intelligence. They may not be able to stop it but they do know what the game is and they stay well informed. The right had knows what the left hand is doing when it comes to those kinds of threats.
