Sounds like you have had some terrible experiences with people professing to be for God.
You are right that no one can take away your beliefs. I think all human beings try to convince others that their belief is the right one, because, well, they believe it. Those who do not believe in God, want people to stop believing in God. Its just the way it is. I dont think people are insecure with their own relationship with God, I think they are just fully pursuaded in what they believe, which is why its called belief. I have had some great conversations with people on here and we differed, but it was all good. I dont think any of us are foolish enough to think we can pursuay anyone else to believe as we do. (sorry about my spelling, I am a terrible speller.) I know no one can convince me to believe the way they do and from my conversations, they can not be convinced to believe as I do either. :)
All religions claim to be the "real deal" and by doing so negate the other religions. Some people are so starved for acceptance that they will dive head first into religion, not necessarily for the right reasons. They do it for acceptance, they do it because they are scared.... and then when they get taken advantage of like this, it only does further damage.
Hopping into religion should be about finding your place with God and developing that relationship. Jumping on to a false prophet's coat tails is the first step in the wrong direction. I'd be hyper-sensitive to anyone claiming that they have a closer relationship to God than I do, I'd be very sensitive to anyone who tells me that the way through Jesus is through them.
I've seen enough "full of $hit" prophets to ruin anyones relationship with God, or at least make one question that relationship. Although I am not religious, I am spiritual and I have a pretty good idea as to where I lie with God..... no specific religion can bring that to me, or me to that. It's an inner belief, and nobody can take that away. The people who try are insecure with their own relationship with God, and I witness that so often on some of these threads.
Any prophet, priest, minister, or any other member of the clergy is preaching their impression of the bible. That is the common thread with all religious figures.... it is their beliefs that they are passing on. They do not want anyone forming their own opinion. It's pitiful really that people are that needy that they would believe some clown, like this guy, just to be accepted. God, Jesus, or whoever/whatever is out there already accepts you because you are here.....
The bible says its the goodness of God that leads men into repentence.
Trying to scare people only gets people to say a prayer they dont mean to feel safe from a God they see as cruel.
These cult leaders are incredibly good at finding people that feel lost and making them feel loved and wanted. They are so convincing when someone wants to be a part of something. It's sad. I still hope he speaks out. I really want to hear what he has to say for himself. Wonder if he will use some of that money to help out those that got rid of all their worldly possessions and quit their jobs based on his bs.
Yes, he has run and is hiding, proving the coward that he really is. The true Christians who have stepped up to the plate here is all the churches who are reaching out to offer help and counseling to all the devestated followers of his. Yet, Camping claimed all churches besides his were from the devil. Another sign of a cult leader. They all say that to keep you in their church so they can control you.
Why oh why did everyone take this man's word for all of this and not study the bible for themsevles? Where did he get so much power? It's scary to think so many people can be brain washed so easily.
My heart goes out to all of them. I hope they will put the blame where the blame lies, with Camping and not God.
If you raised 80-100 million dollars based on a bogus claim you would have disappeared too. Think about it. If he stays, he may have to return that money. Now he and his crew are off on an island laughing at all the fools he suckered.
I keep checking CAmping's website to see what he has to say on the fact that nothing seems to have happened. It is still claiming May 21st is the day....I really would like to hear what he has to say.
God has an amazing since of humor. For my Mansion he gave me a House and all of the Furniture that looks just like the one I had. I have the same neigbors and the grass even needs to be cut.
I'm still here!
Curiously, Camping and his elders of his church seem to be missing. Do you suppose they were the only ones in the world who was raptured?
For clarification, we are all still here.... aren't we?
Not only that but he raised 80 million dollars from 2005 -2009 (may be off a bit on the date). Keep in mind the bible is very very clear---if someone is profiting off what they claim to be from God---RUN.
For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith. (1 Tim. 6:10a) Then verse 11 says (but thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.
Jude says
V. 1719 But, beloved, remember ye the words which were spoken before by the apostles of our LOrd Jesus Christ: How that they told you there should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungoldly lusts. These be they who separate themselves, sensual, having not the Spirit.
ha - that reminds me...we were in the new Pirates movie when 6pm came and went, and my brother-in-law texted his friend and he cracked the same joke "nope, I'm still here, my iphone works from heaven!" - we told my BIL to respond with "oh no, you're in the wrong place, iphones are from h$ll!"
Yep, internet here too. In fact, my house looks the same and everything. It was all so painless...like nothing happened! Incredible!!! lol
I have to comment on the posts saying that this prediction makes Christians and Christianity look bad. I actually don't believe that. This is one person who influenced a few others to take some rather silly extremes. Yes, he claimed he did it under the name of Christianity, but I don't believe that the majority take this as a mockery of the religious belief. Just one person who is looking for glory and power using his religion as a weapon. Happen all the time in every religion. The majority certainly know that he and his followers are not representative of the majority of Christians. The only thing he is making a mockery of is himself.
I made the cut. They even have Internet up here.
Well, I'm still here...how about everyone else?
thanks for the link, April, I would love to read it (when I'm not exhausted).
I really like the idea that my mom said she had heard about - leave your clothes on the front lawn like you've been raptured so when all the "believers" wake up tomorrow they think they're the only ones left. it sounds mean but...hey, they spent months trying to scare the living daylights of out people (which, thanks to blessedly rare good sense, didn't work) so I think they deserve a little ribbing. Hope their bosses are lenient come monday when they're begging for their jobs back..

Very informative. It was written by Bob Godfry who has known him since the 50's. It talks about his trail from reformed theology to an idiosyncratic wresting of plain scripture.
This only proves him to be a false prophet. He's teachings are not even biblical! He has become arrogant and an individualist in his intrepretations of scripture and he contradicts himself all over the place.
I thought it odd that he was saying this was the day of Rapture and Judgement and October would be the end of the world, because I knew that couldn't be right. We are supposed to have a time of tribulation first, then Jesus comes back for His people and then He will rule the world for 1,000 years. So the world is going to go through some rough times but it's not going to be destroyed for a very long time.
I just made a journal that might make some feel a bit better. It's Christian writer, Jerry B. Jenkins thoughts on the predictions for today.
Like he said in the article, I think that leader will have some explaining to do tomorrow. Oftentimes, these false prophets hurt the faith by cauing people to question Christianity, but people fall and make mistakes, that's why it's important to look to God, not fallible humans.
Jesus will come back when the Father says it's time. No one knows the time or date for a reason, because God knows people will party up till that time, then repent and turn to Him. That's not what He wants. He wants us to live each day as if He could return tomorrow.
We should not be foolish, by quitting our jobs and leaving our families. We need to be wise in these end times and realize there will be many false prophets. We just need to keep our eyes on the only one who can truly be trusted, God, Himself.
Yes, I believe we are in end times, because we see so much going on in the world, but how long that will last and how much will happen, I don't know. I don't think any of us know. All we can do is pray and watch. That's my thoughts on it anyway.

REYKJAVIK, Iceland — Iceland's most active volcano erupted Saturday, with a white plume shooting 18,000 feet into the air, scientists said.

The eruption was followed by around 50 small earthquakes, the largest of which measured 3.7 on the Richter Scale, according to Iceland's meteorological office.
There was a similar eruption at the same volcano in 2004.
Scientists don't believe this eruption will lead to air travel chaos like that caused by ash from the Eyjafjallajokul volcano in April 2010.
The Grimsvotn volcano is located underneath the Vatnajokull glacier in southeast Iceland.
Sparsely populated Iceland is one of the world's most volcanically active countries and eruptions are frequent.
They often cause local flooding from melting glacier ice, but rarely cause deaths.
Last year's Eyjafjallajokul eruption left millions of air travelers stranded after winds pushed the ash cloud toward some of the world's busiest airspace and led most northern European countries to ground all planes for five days.
In November, melted glacial ice began pouring from Grimsvotn, signaling a possible eruption. That was a false alarm but scientists have been monitoring the volcano closely ever since.

Almost 11 am here and haven't heard of any earthquakes anywhere. Maybe only some countries get to participate in the rapture?
NARLA! U missed the rapture! Have you checked on family members yet! lol My hubby wants to go out on the boat today. Says if there is a tsunami from and earthquake its the best place to be and in the meantime we can get some fishing in.
Well it's 6.30pm here and I'm still here.
1.25pm 5/21 here no signs of anything yet.
Isn't this the same guy that predicted the world would end in October 1992? And then again on New Years 2000?
In any event, what will be will be. But just in case, I picked up a bottle of wine to enjoy with my husband tonight!! lol
