I see a difference between a chosen profession and a chosen ideology. I'd lump KKK members together too....even if there was an attorney in there somewhere.
Having said that I do not believe that all republicans are evil or stupid. I disagree with the ideology/platform, objectives and methods so by association party members trigger some negative reactions in me. But, I do have friends who are republican. I personally like them but I do not respect their ideology. And there are democrats who I cannot stomach too.
FTR: You've lumped all Republicans into the same pile for identification purposes. it's okay when you do it but out of line when someone else does it?
FTR:
The original subject of this thread is Dennis Hastert who isn't and never was a lawyer.
All politicians are not lawyers.
About this doozy:
'...and you and I both know that there's never been, in the history of the earth, an honest, upstanding, worth-a-crap, attorney. NEVER. They're all worthless POS's ...."
What more can be said about that nonsense?
I am offended by that comment, I have a very good friend who is a lawyer. Ok I am not offended by it, but I do have a friend who is a lawyer and he is a stand up guy in life and professinally. Probably because he has a good work ethic and has been out of work for over a year at one time.
In your first comment, you wrote: " I just wonder what it is about being a politician that draws in so many low character (pretending to be otherwise) individuals"
I have the answer to that question/statement:
They're all LAWYERS
(and you and I both know that there's never been, in the history of the earth, an honest, upstanding, worth-a-crap, attorney. NEVER. They're all worthless POS's
I'm with you disillusioned by ALL of them
With you as well....clean slate
Is it fair that you are lumping all republicans into the same immoral pile as Hastert? This guy sets himself aside from hundreds of millions of republicans by doing what he did. Does that then make those republicans... as good as democrats?
Hastert is amongst the worst of the worst. Neither Hillary nor Bill are saints. Lets not pretend they are.
I have no trouble saying that Hastert was unequivocally worse than Clinton.
It's not political - it's fundamental morality.
Maybe you're incapable of distinguishing one wrrong from another. Maybe your political persuasion precludes you from being capable of objective thinking. I think that's probably the real truth. I don't have that problem.
Hastert was exponentially more morally reprehensible and if you can't see that then I feel sooty for you.
You've lost your moral compass - if you ever had one.
Yeah!! Agreement is good. I really can't defend any of these people and don't care what party they represent. I am feeling rather disillusioned with the whole lot of them at this point-- ALL of them!
We are in full agreement on this one !!
I'm still of the opinion that we need a clean slate.
Ha ha, that was funny.
They are all gross. I guess we have to dumb down our standards of what is indicative of good character in all of our countries leaders.
Swarthy bunch. None are better than any other just because they belong to a particular political party.
I mean, really. Why would anyone defend any of these people? Or pick which sick offense was worse? Would seem to me that this is something we could all agree on. That such behavior is unbecoming, no matter who is the offender.
I am not sure about Herman. I don't know what to believe with him.
You neglected to mention the guy walking the Appalachian Trail - he's in there somewhere too.
And then there's Edwards and that was pretty ugly...and Newt and on and on.
I really think Hastert is at the head of the pack though. The hypocrisy of the guy is really something to behold. What a sanctimonious, disingenuous liar and fraud! Going after Clinton with such passion for an intern while he's a teacher/coach doing a male student and then paying millions to cover it up.
That guy is too much - way too much.
Maybe we should invent a Card Game
My Dennis Hastert. May Trump your Clinton
But your Gary Hart Trumps my Herman Cain
"...Speaker of the House who now has been indicted for lying about payments covering up his sexual contact with a boy...."
I think that may trump Bill's behavior and probably supersedes it for "a new level level of tacky"....imho anyway.
Thanks, but other than a mental disorder, I don’t understand how after 15-20 years, someone still hasn’t learned the language. I had a foreman from Mexico that read and spoke (including Plans and Spec book). I was amazed when I found out he had only been hear for3 years. He told me that not only did he take classes (offered free); he said he listened to older Country Music because it was slower and repetitive. He also would watch older cartoons (Foghorn/Leghorn was his favorite). He insisted that his family tried to communicate in English and was only allowed to watch Spanish programs 1.5 hours a day. One time he was upset because he read the plans wrong and had to rip it all down and start over. I told him everyone makes mistakes and “no use in crying over spilt milk”. Later in the day he asked me what does “crying over spilt milk,” mean. He started laughing when I explained it to him because he thought it was a construction term and was embarrassed to ask. I hope he gets his citizenship; people like him will be an asset.
Sorry to babble.
Gross politicians isn't a Republican or Democrat problem. It's the reality of all of them.
I did think Bill reached a new level of tacky by doing an intern and he publically lied about it. I thought Hilary handled it about as well as a wife could. Felt bad for her.
GOP’s obscene sex-cop hypocrisy: Dennis Hastert, Hillary and the absurdity of the Clinton impeachment
"....During the 1990s, Hastert remained a firm advocate of impeachment, at one point condemning the president for his “inability to abide by the law.” Hastert stressed, “The evidence in President Clinton’s case is overwhelming that he has abused and violated the public trust.”
Of course it was the impeachment imbroglio that elevated Hastert, indirectly, to his lofty position of speaker of the House; a position he later leveraged into millions by becoming a very wealthy lobbyist.
The background: Former Republican Speaker Newt Gingrich was forced to resign in 1998 after the impeachment-obsessed GOP faced disastrous midterm losses. (Gingrich later admitted he was engaged in an affair with a Congressional aide at the time.) Up next was Rep. Bob Livingston (R-LA), chairman of the powerful Appropriations Committee. “One of the loudest of those calling for the House to impeach Clinton over an extra-marital affair,” noted the National Journal, Livingston was soon ousted after he was forced to publicly confess to committing adultery “on occasion.”
Into that void stepped Hastert.
That means all three Republican House leaders who pursued Clinton’s impeachment have now confessed or been accused of sexual and moral transgressions themselves. Those were the people the D.C press took its cues from during the impeachment charade?
As Orin Kerr noted in the Washington Post following the Hastert indictment:
If I understand the history correctly, in the late 1990s, the President was impeached for lying about a sexual affair by a House of Representatives led by a man who was also then hiding a sexual affair, who was supposed to be replaced by another Congressman who stepped down when forced to reveal that he too was having a sexual affair, which led to the election of a new Speaker of the House who now has been indicted for lying about payments covering up his sexual contact with a boy...."

Politicians are a swarthy bunch. I just wonder what it is about being a politician that draws in so many low character (pretending to be otherwise) individuals.
