Norovirus or Stomach flu?

How are infections with noroviruses treated?

You treat gastroenteritis caused by noroviruses by managing complications until it passes. Dehydrationcaused by diarrhea and vomiting is the most common complication. Do not use medicines, including antibioticsand other treatments, unless your doctor recommends them.

To prevent dehydration, take frequent sips of a rehydration drink (such as Pedialyte). Try to drink a cup of water or rehydration drink for each large, loose stool you have. Soda and fruit juices have too much sugar and not enough of the important electrolytesthat are lost during diarrhea, and they should not be used to rehydrate. In cases of severe dehydration, fluids may need to be replaced through an IV (intravenously).

We had a nice thanksgiving day. Went to the da house for dinner, brought the oldest boy home with us just to have him get sick within 20 minutes of us arriving home. Since I had to work the next day, we put him back in the car and took him back home. Friday I went to work, Sat me and the man both spent the day in stomach flu misery. It only lasted about 8 hours, but I have not been that sick in years. How about you? Has it hit your house yet? Please keep this in mind while out and about doing your seasonal shopping in large crowds. Yuck doesnt even describe it!

Oh Teko and Glass, empathy galore for you.  That is the WORST!!  Stomach viruses and gastroenteritis are just miserable.  When I'm sick like that, that is the one time I can't be a mom to my kids.  I lose the ability to do what I need to do and become a crumpled up mess in the corner with a puke bucket.

I will keep that hand sanitizer handy this season for sure.

Again, sorry people have been sick!  Stay healthy.

And the idea of a convenience store hot dog makes me queazy on a good day!  LOL

My man started getting cold, then stomach pains, nausea and general feelings of weakness. Those were his symptoms. Mostly nausea.

Me, well I woke up freezing, made coffee, drank a cup and just out of the blue, bang! Severe nausea and diahrea, Couldnt sit and bend over at the same time. Couldnt keep any liquids down and quickly dehydrated. After about 8-12 hrs, it went away as fast as it came.

Seems the kids had this thing the week before us. Of couse we could have gotten it anywhere else as we are a state full of tourists and snow birds. Every year when they return they come bearing gifts. But truly, I had not been that sick in years!  Today, I got my flu shot! LOL

I guess if I had to say anything good, it was that I got sick on Saturday and didnt miss any work! Whew! I can see where this could easily send the very young or the very old to the ER...

Im glad you feel better R. HOTDOGS!  You are a glutten for punishment! LOL

I was in bed Sat and Sunday. I had to pull over twice this morning driving to New Orleans. I started felling better about 4 hours ago. I haven't ate all day other than an egg sandwich so while I was at the store, I bought 2 Hot Dogs. I guess I'm a glutten for punishment.

Good info.

The term stomach "flu" is actually erroneous (that's not a dig at you, everyone uses that).  Almost all stomach "flus" are viral in nature, and have nothing to do with influenza.  Unless someone is diagnosed with actual influenza, they don't have a "flu".  That's one of those terms that has just grown over the years.

Handwashing is THE most effective way to stop the spread of communicable diseases and infections.
