Obama jokes about hearing 'less-than-loving' words from Christian critics

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama mixed a joking poke at his critics with his Easter-themed remarks Tuesday at a White House prayer breakfast.

"On Easter I do reflect on the fact that as a Christian I am supposed to love," Obama said. "And I have to say that sometimes, when I've listened to less-than-loving expressions by Christians, I get concerned."

"But that's a topic for another day," he added, to loud laughter from the audience. "I was about to veer off. I'm pulling it back."

Vice President Joe Biden, Cardinal Donald Wuerl of Washington and the Rev. Al Sharpton were among guests at the prayer breakfast, a seasonal tradition of the Obama White House. Christian pop singer Amy Grant performed.

Obama thanked Christian ministers for traveling to Washington from across the country after their busy season of Holy Week.

"I can't say that our work during this season is comparable," he said, "but you should try dealing with thousands of people in your backyard on an Easter egg roll. After that, you need quiet reflection."

Speaking of the season's spirit of renewal and promise, Obama called Easter "our affirmation that there are better days ahead. And also a reminder that is it is on us, the living, to make them so."

I'd be the first to agree that Obama is a hypocrite and I'm sorely disappointed in him, however that doesn't  make his statement inaccurate. And this statement in this instance has nothing to do with Muslims so try, I know it's hard for you, to keep on topic.

As with most things there are those who step out of line and don't represent what those they say they stand for.

As an admitted imperfect Christian, President Obama is the last person I would accept criticism from regarding "less than loving Christians, since he professes to be one, yet he stands up for the Muslims every chance he gets.

If the President wants to point out hypocrisy, he should first look in the mirror and see his own.

It's always been my understanding that brotherly love and turning the other cheek are attributes that stand out in all religions, not just Christianity, though Christianity is the only religion we hear being put down these days.  Why aren't we hearing these ugly things being said about Buddhism or Hinduism or other religions?  Don't you think they might have some hypocrites amongst them, as well?

He has talked about how few terrorists are committing the acts of terror, yet he makes a blanket statement on Christians? Yet it is really only a few that have made noise.

He will not condem MUSLIM TERRORISTS yet he will speak out on Christians? Whatever. he is a joke.

Yes, whatever happened to brotherly love and turning the other cheek as Christian attributes ?
I too find it contradictory for so-called Christians who advocate hate. That was not what I was told Jesus is about !

Obama was pointing out hypocrisy, of which there is more than enough to go around.

Me not being religious sees it this way.  I too would be concerned regarding some of the less than Christian garbage some Christian spew.  So many of these so called Christians say whatever they want to say, do whatever they want to do and then cower behind the guise of religion.

What a miserable, hypocritical existence.

Sadly to say that you have the people on the right see this and independants see this also. But anyone on the left is so caught up with "you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy,"

"And I have to say that sometimes, when I've listened to less-than-loving expressions by Christians, I get concerned."

Concern over Christians comments, but not a peep, ever, about muslim extremists comments, ideology, actions, or acts of brutality, to the point, that the idiot won't even use the words "muslim" & "extremist" in the same sentence.

I'm so glad this plague of a man will be gone soon.

At least Bush called it like he saw it. Right, wrong, or indifferent, GW called a spade a spade, and took decisive action.

This guy sits on the sidelines and panders to his muslim brothers, to the detriment of the entire planet.

You dems realize, that if Iran gets a nuclear weapon, the Saudi's will buy one (or an arsenal) from the Pakistani's in order to defend themselves (as they'll be under threat from Iran). And after that, it's only a matter of time before a group like ISIS or Al Queda infiltrates one or the other, and starts a nuclear-war... right?

Are Republicans/Conservatives the only people that can see this?
