I just saw that as well.  I wonder, when do you become contagious and able to infect others?  Is it right before the fever (which not everyone gets) is it right after the fever?

I am really worried that the CDC does not know what is is doing, that or it has not provided enough training.

And now it comes to light that this second victim, traveled from Cleveland to Dallas the night before she was admitted to the hospital and diagnosed with ebola.  At the time she was exhibiting no symptoms of ebola they say, but, they are giving the flight number and all, wanting those people to contact officials. UMMMM!

I dunno. I guess this response from me would be more of an emotional response than a logical one, but imo, if they cannot handle a few cases any better than they have so far, maybe restricting air travel should not be outta the realm of practicality. I know it would hurt economys, both ours and theirs, but hey! we ARE talking lives here. They are talking this thing growing over there to  thousand new cases a week...That is a problem.

If there gets to be 10+ cases that come from outside the US then a travel ban will have to be done. If it is just cases from inside the US then they will not do it.

This has the potential to turn into the Spanish flu of our time. And not just America, all countries need to have a travel ban NOW.

I agree with you.  I don't think it is racist to say that they need to shut it down.  Stop people from coming here until the virus is contained.

It doesn't make sense to have people come here to be quarantined exposing others.

Facebook just gave $25M to treat it in place
Bill Gates just gave a tremendous amount of money as well

I am always hearing this "shelter in place" when there is a shooting, why can't they do this now?  Also, how does anyone know when they go from no fever to a fever when it is contagious?  I just read some don't get a fever at first.
I am afraid.
I also don't think this is political, this is a human condition.  Normally Americans will band together to fight.  This should not separate us but unite us.

Right or wrong I am sharing the petition to the FAA to stop flights that is on "We the People" Last night there were 25K signatures.

Obama has mishandled this whole ebola thing from the start.

Why wasn't a national emergency declared, by him, the moment the first case showed up in Dallas?

If there's an outbreak, I blame him.

The buck stops with the President. Unless of course he didn't know about it, because he missed his daily briefing or was on the links, in which case, all's forgiven.

(you knew someone had to go there at some point. if this was GW's presidency, the dolt-left would have already lambasted him for not reacting to the Dallas-ebola thing. 2 can play at that game)

I think you could be right that she was exposed before they changed to hazmat suits

"— On Sept. 30, tests results confirmed Duncan had Ebola. Only then did staff treating Duncan trade their gowns and scrubs for hazmat suits, and the room was cleaned with bleach."

There is a petition on "We the People" to ban flights until the virus can be contained.  It sounds good to me

Doctors without Borders have been begging for help since the summer.  They are struggling to keep up.

That's the most racist thing I've ever heard.

You KNOW that "infested" nations are predominantly black. So you're basically saying that you want to stop all black people from entering this country, until further notice.

Racist.

Travel restrictions are needed. No one is allowed to travel to Ebola infested nations and reenter America and we will not take in anyone from ebola infested nations until this is under control.

Here is an excerpt taken from the article.

— On Sept. 25, Duncan came to the ER complaining of a headache and abdominal pain. At one point, he registered a fever of 103 and told the hospital he had been in West Africa. He was sent home with a prescription for antibiotics.

Dallas hospital
Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas, where Ebola patient Thomas Eric Duncan was treated. A healthcare worker who participated in his care has been diagnosed with the virus. (LM Otero / Associated Press)
— His condition worsened dramatically, and on Sept. 28, he returned to the hospital in an ambulance shortly after 10 a.m.

— Doctors admitted him and put him in isolation. By evening, he was projectile vomiting, having explosive diarrhea and running a temperature of 103.1 degrees.

— On Sept. 29, as his condition worsened, Duncan asked the nurse to put him in a diaper.

— On Sept. 30, tests results confirmed Duncan had Ebola. Only then did staff treating Duncan trade their gowns and scrubs for hazmat suits, and the room was cleaned with bleach.

— On Oct. 8, Duncan died.

This could be a huge problem.....

Interesting blow by blow. Take note of when the workers put on their hazmat suits and the fact that Poor Duncan had to request a diaper...If true.

I know what you mean.  I just heard a doctor who was trying to say how hard it is to get then say that well if if touches your skin that could be a way to get it.
I am confused, first they were saying it had to get into your mucus membranes  or an opening in skin, now they are saying if it touches your skin?
How did we go from eyes nose mouth to touching the skin?

I am really worried that this is going to get out of control.

How did it get out of control in Africa?  Scientists were there in 2008 and earlier flying back and forth and nothing happened back then.  There was nothing in the news about it.

If you look up the doctor that was brought back here to be treated, his emails stated how terrorized he was.  Ebola starts to attack your organs and as time goes on fluid is every where, very hard to control something like that.
I remember my toddler having diarrhea and vomiting and how hard that was.  I can't imagine hundreds of people with no control.

Thank you for sharing information, I really appreciate it.

I thought we were already prepared for such things to happen. At least that was the message. But it seems like that was not fact as this has been bumbled from the get go and I think that is what scares us is the inability to trust what we are being told and how its being handled. I also heard they quarantined a close contact of this nurse and her dog as well.

I also heard the hospital in Dallas is requesting transfer of this nurse as they say they have no reserves to treat any ore ebola patients and since treatment of duncan their er is empty as well....hmmm

Hi yes, I hope none of them come down with it.  It seems that Mr Duncan got sick pretty quickly but he was helping a woman who died that night 9/15.  Then he flew here on 19th 20th.  Was showing signs within 5 days.
I read that the further along it gets the more contagious.

I saw that the nurses are protesting because they are not being appropriately trained.  They have asked for training for months and aren't getting it.
I believe it.  I used to work for the govt and was given training as we were trying to implement.  It was awful, one person said
"It is like we are building a plane that is in flight"

I wonder if the nurses know that the protective gear they are being given is only  good for level 3 protection vs the level 4 that is required for ebola, it comes with its own air supply which I think it odd if ebola is not air born.

The head of the CDC is blaming the nurse for not following protocol which makes me so angry.  It is awful to blame the victim.

I suppose if there is any good news in this whole mess, it would be that no one has tested positive, from the ones isolated in duncans contacts. Thats good news so far, and so far, he has been the only death.

Now they are saying that if this worker was exposed, wearing the gear, that it is likely there will be more that will show up positive for ebola as well.

Am I the only one that sees our healthcare workers going on strike and leaving the field if this continues? Then we will all be up a creek without a paddle.

The CDC is re evaluating the protective gear. Having a buddy system, so to speak....Would that not be common sense before the fact? Im not feeling very warm and fuzzy about all this.

I just saw on where the equipment the nurses have been using were biohazard level 3 protection and for Ebola level 4 is recommended
This come with pressurized suits.  I will try to find it.

In the mean time I find it funny that Firestone was able to quarantine/ isolate their facility within a matter of days.  The did have a lot of man power to build isolation buildings start procedures right away.
