'Democrats use climate change as wedge issue on Republicans'

"Washington -- When President Obama stood before students in Southern California a week ago ridiculing those who deny climate science, he wasn't just road testing a new political strategy to a friendly audience. He was trying to drive a wedge between younger voters and the Republican Party.

Democrats are convinced that climate change is the new same-sex marriage, an issue that is moving irreversibly in their favor, especially among young people, women and independents, the voters who hold the keys to the White House in 2016.

Wedge issues are those in which one side believes strongly that it has the moral high ground. Just as Republicans held the upper hand on same-sex marriage in 2004, Democrats now see climate change as a way to drive their base voters to the polls while branding Republicans as antiscience and beholden to special interests......."

Will being branded ignorant and corrupt be enough to break the  'Friday-night-high-school-football-hooray-for-our-side-no-matter-what-the quarterback-is-doing-to-the-cheerleaders-under-the-bleachers' mentality? Or will  Cheney and the 1%ers' propaganda campaign prevail?

Stay tuned.

Ha, well.   The title of this got my attention.  What can I say?  I'm immature at times.

I think it is kind of sad that something like climate change has to be political.  That's science.  I realize that politicians make policy regarding it but wish this didn't have to fall into the category of being a polarizing political issue.  That you have to be totally for climate change evidence or against it.  I think our knowledge of what is happening is evolving and growing but certainly, no one can deny that 'something' is happening.

It's just sad to me that we can't just love our planet and try as a group to take care of it so it lasts.  I hate that it would be an issue that either side would glom onto and use to garner votes.  I wish this nation could rise above and just compromise when needed and do what is right and best.

Instead, people dig in and fight about it.  For political points no less.

Independent scientific reports with nothing to gain or lose to provide the information are our best source to understand what is happening.  But I guess in this day and age, that is hard to come by.  But THAT should drive what happens with climate policy.

The moral high ground is so irritating.  I accept that others can have different beliefs and still be moral.  I always balk at these politicians that use the 'moral high ground' as if they are so good and if you don't agree, you are heartless, stupid, uncaring or wrong.

And I can't stand politicians that think putting down others is the way to win.  I get it.  It's as old as time to do that and the ugly practice is common for politicians to glom onto for votes.  Sad though.

because it sure doesn't bring people together for a common cause.

A good leader can bring people with different beliefs together to come up with a plan as a team.  I'm sure I'll go to my grave wishing for Washington to have good leaders.
