‘You Didn't Build That’ Fizzles for GOP
Despite Mitt Romney’s campaign efforts to use President Barack Obama’s “You didn’t build that” line to paint him as anti-business, a new poll shows the effort has fallen flat, Politico reported.
The line, it turns out, is not a net negative for Obama among those asked in the latest NBC/Wall Street Journal poll. Respondents were read the lines in context and asked how that changed their views of Obama, with 36 percent saying it made them feel more positively about Obama, 32 percent saying it made them view him more negatively, and 26 percent saying it made no difference.
Quoting from the president’s July 13 speech in Roanoke, Va., the poll question read, “Barack Obama recently said that if you have been successful, you did not get there on your own. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create the American system that allowed you to thrive. He said if you have a business, you didn’t build that, somebody else made that happen. When we succeed, we succeed because of our individual initiative, but also because we do things together.”
The Romney campaign and Republicans have devoted enormous messaging resources to the argument that the comments show Obama is anti-business. The campaign focused on the remarks during the Republican National Convention, making it a theme of an entire day, and several speakers referenced the line.
The NBC/WSJ poll has Obama up by 3 points over Romney among likely voters.

I've learned to ignore him. He refuses to see anything no matter how much 'proof' we show him.

We aren't the only ones who know these words were taken out of context, that the meaning, that we all need others to help us, be it the transportation system or the help of a good teacher, wasn't lost on most of us.

It was not taken out of context, it was his words in full context. And for 32 to see him more negativly then using his own words in context worked.
You can dismiss the 36 percent because it's impossible to take those words and find him more favorably. Those were Dems voting for him already.

That they invested that much into spinning Obama's remarks shows how desperate they really are.

The reason it fell flat was because everyone already knew it was taken out of context. What a waste of money.
