OK lets try and be the new president.  You are handed a country that is just about to colapse. The national deficit is off the rector scale. You are at war in 2 countries. Many of your people are jobless and losing thier homes. They are sick with no healthcare. They get 70% of thier oil from countries that don't like us.
Oh by the way ........you are not allowed to spend any money to fix these things.  Good luck in being president everyone.

Yes, I agree this will make things interesting.  I do believe that something needs to be done so more people can afford the care they need, but maybe now they will have to slow down and come up with something that will be good for everyone and won't let the government decide what care we get.

My apologies for not responding to your multiple request for my answers. I will try to do so. I had to search threw the above posts for the questions and will paste them below. Hopefully I haven't missed any, please let me know if I have. I'll put my answers in caps for clarity (not because I'm yelling,LOL)

I wanted to wait until I had time to sit down and respond to your post. Tho I understand why you feel what you feel, I still do not agree. Now let me tell you why.

We do not live in the same times. The world is everchanging. One of the reasons that our healthcare is in the condition that it is in is because people do not feel the need to pay for something if they aint sick. Now this could be because they are 20 years old or because they are self employed or lost a job or whatever. If one of those people gets sick, they usually go to the ER because they have no pcp. When you walk into the ER and sign your name, it just cost you 350.00. Once you see a doctor the price keeps going up. Now if you have insurance, they have an agreement with your provider to discount a generous amount of that bill and then you pay your 20% or whatever your plan is.  If you have no insurance, you get no discount and you are billed the 100%. Of couse you cannot pay it so guess who does. Those paying premiums.

By requesting all people to have insurance would create a pool big enuff to make it affordable for people to get coverage from all avenues.
That is what the public option would have done. Now, the public option is gone off the table so frankly I do not care much about it now except if it passes at least the insurance companies have to do away with the pre existing clause (Im sure they would find a way around that tho).

Now my point is this...if you have private insurance you can keep it. However, if everyone has insurance your rates go down, automatically. If things stay the way they are, they will continue to go up, the welfare roles are bulging now and more people will be on them. How long do you realistically think this is gonna work? You have less choice now than if this plan passes.

I am older than probably just about all of you here. I am self employed. My husband had insurance thru his job. When the econemy went to hell they dropped it. We tried to get it and they will not consider us because of pre existing conditions. He has stents for a heart condition and I have copd. One med that I am supposed to be on costs 200.00 a month. If we go to the doctor we pay out of pocket and cannot afford any tests or to be diagnosed with anything else because if we do find insurance somehow, they can then use that as a pre existing condition as well. We both work, are older, pay our taxes. Our taxes go to help pay for welfare and all that medical care those folks get, but yet we get none.  I guess in the greatest nation in the world, that is acceptable? So you see, I pay for others care and cannot get any myself. Is that fair? All this pres. is trying to do is make it possible for us to get healthcare. This is a basic right and should not be based on how much money you have or how sick you are. This is why I would support a one payor system. We are the greatest nation in the world yet are 35th I think, in healthcare and our mortality rate much higher than many other nations not as developed as we are.

As far as margy goes, I have no doubt about her experiences yet I fail to see how one president, with one term can turn us into all she fears. I also do not think it healthy at a time when our econemy ***** and people are stressed to go around crying the sky is falling when it is not. Just my opinion.

I look at it like this. There is a difference in offering something and forcing something. At one time the government would just come in and take your children and put them in foster homes or government run homes.

For the government to give a choice to those that need it makes it an option.
To take away the choice by force is loosing a Right. Everything I have read that has been available on the Health Care Reform, even where it was amended, the choice is not there. Private insurance will eventually faze out anyway. Those that have it when it is signed, are ok for a while anyway. Those that don't have no choice. If you have your own policy, it has to be government approved, if not, the citizen is fined for having it. They consider it invalid. If I chose to have my own, then I should be able to keep it. If I want the government plan, then that should be my choice. The more I read the more I see that I would have no say in the matter of my own care. They decide, even over the dr. Taxes on medications, taxes on the insurance that taxes are how you have it, taxes on treatment, taxes on any machine that you need for your health, which first has to be approved by the government. Alloted amount of money for time periods the Commissioner has available affects all of us. If they run out in the time period, then you don't get the care you need, of course if it would have been approved. You still have co-pays, and they don't cover all of the bill.  

The list goes on and on. Many have problems covering medications, like you said the lady eating cat food. Instead of offering her help, they will decide if she needs it and if they are within their allowance to spend. Can you imagine having medication for mental stability suddenly denied or someone carrying an oxygen tank to breathe suddenly have it taken away?

I find it very disturbing in a Country of Choice as a Freedom. They will form so many Committees under the Commissioner to go to drs offices, hospitals, you name it. They will have a data bank of all health records. That could be helpful if you go to an emergency treatment and have conflicting conditions or medication. It can not be so good if you have a big fat denial across the screen and are denied the help. Drs, etc, will have to abide by the government's decision, not what they think is best. If they give you a prescription for anything that has been denied, even if you pay for it out of your own pocket, they are in trouble with the government. If you chose to be on some type of life support machine, dialysis for example, it can be denied. It is in their hands. If they run out of money alloted, guess what happens.

Less will be available to people because with all the Committees they need to monitor and report every single thing done, is going to cost out of this world.

That is not health care it is more like ownership. They have already cut Social Security. They are already running ads to sign up.

They will never list it all, as it is, they have under the table deals. They do say you will need supplemental insurance, because they don't cover everything. Thus, the big back up of the insurance companies. You will pay tax on that also.

I know why Margy is scared of this. I am scared of this. The people of this Nation have always had choices. The freedom of choice will be lost. Not handling terrorists they way they should, saying lack of security, will lead to a more policed Country. From History we know what happens with these things. We will be told what to do, where to live, what to eat, and what if any methods to live. They feed that, those that oppose them are using scare tactics, blaming it on people that speak out such as Glen Beck or who ever, so they can get people to ignore what they are doing. They have a site set up to report those that speak against what is happening. Freedom of Speech attacked. I learned a long time ago to check things out for myself. I worked collections in my past, and I have heard every lie imaginable.

I can't deny what I read in black and white by our own government. I was totally shocked by what I saw. We can't take it for granted that our leaders are all going to protect us. Had people known what was happening in History, they may have been able to prevent a lot of the tragedy. Just like local laws. I was never big into watching laws being passed in my County, until one day I was affected by one. I could not believe it.

Truth can be a hard thing to swallow sometimes. How Obama has pushed this that our representatives would even consider that amount of control is unbelievable to me. Yet as we all know, some are only there for money. The rich can have all the increased taxes in the world, but they get around it and we probably pay more than they ever do. The Companies giving big donations to Haiti, will write it off, so it helps them in the end, while they get the glory of giving. Obama has stood behind the bill from the beginning. He knows what is in it. He helped them lay it out. President or not, it is power in his hands. Why the fear to challenge him by the members of his own party, especially Nancy Pelosi, I can't answer. I do know if we don't get involved, This Great Nation, The United States of America, as we know it, will not exist

It truly sounds like you have had a rough road to hoe. I was not singling you out. There have been claims that the health care reform bill is nothing but obama wanting to turn our country into socialism. Now ya cannot have it both ways. Lots of people lay dying or have lost there homes that they raised there children in cause they do not have health care, and from no fault of their own. Do these people deserve to dye in the greatest country in the world? You have been to hell and back in your situation so you tell me? Is it fair? Do we not have a responsibility to those of us that are falling thru the cracks. I know one senior who lives alone and eats catfood in order to get her scripts. This is America!  So if we are against government run programs because we are afraid of socialism, does that not mean welfare should be gone? There is lots of waste and fraud in all those programs, and if this terrible president had not intervened like he did to save the banks and all, all these programs would be non existant. They came about back in the depression days and were not meant to last forever. If we had not saved the necks of so many, we would now be reliving those days or worse. I just cannot understand how no one can see that.  He had two choices and opted for the one to keep things hanging on. IMO. Maybe not the best choice in hindsight, personally I think he should have let it fail and the chips fall where they may. Then there would be NO government run programs or anything else.

And as far as margy goes. She is from the UK. This is not the UK. She nor anyone else knows firsthand anything about this countries future. It is fearmongering, scare tactics and the such. Now I do understand the fear of us becoming like that but we are not the UK. We are the United States of America, the most powerful nation in the world and one president and one term is not hardly turning us into the UK. I just read your story and I cried for you.  Sadly stories like yours still exist today, although fortunately there are more resources now available.  Still not enough in my opinion, but more.  At least our courts now take Domestic Violence seriously and treat it like the crime it is.  How awful it must have been for you.

You have to have intelligence before you can grade everyone. You don't answer, you stir it up, but never answer. I don't care whose computer you use, it does not change anything. Teko, you may have raised 6 children, but as I said, some have no options. I had no family to go to. I was on my own and with one child that had long time medical problems. A father that disappeared. I tried everything I could think of. I had no car, no phone, no money, no food, no heat, no availability for a job where we lived. We lived 45 minutes from the nearest town of any size, which was not big with employment opportunities. I have a brother and sister, but they could not help, they could hardly make it. They helped with food. I pulled our belonging in the front yard and sold them to get enough together to get to civilization. Yes the government can help. If they can fork out billions in stupidity that they do, and they can help other countries, they can help people that are in bad situations that can't do for themselves. I could have made it on my own, but making my children suffer, no. I would have scrubbed toilets to feed them. His family took my daughter, then wanted to adopt her. You can have any thoughts you want, but you cannot understand every situation. Did you go through being beat constantly for 12 years, I don't mean a slap, I mean having a man beat you with fists. Have you been thrown all over the house breaking windows with your body? Have you given your children biscuits made of flower and water, and gravy that was flower and water to put over it. No, child deserves to be deserted and abused. You know nothing about the relationship I had with their father before I married him. People change and it is not always for the best. You can only see what is before you, not what the future is. What idiot would marry a man that is extremely abusive then birth children to have them abused? I lived through it as a child. I saw it, and lived in it. There was no way I would put my children in it. I even went to the extent of calling the Red Cross. Eventually, I did get a good job and we still scraped, but we did okay, but it took time. I had no parents to turn to. Don't judge by what you were able to do. All are not that blessed. Even when I went to Social Services, they would do nothing for 3 months. We heated by cutting wood, and I don't mean with a motorized saw. I cut many trees with a small bow saw, not a lot larger than a file. I would not tell all of what happened because it is too horrible. Children get scarred for life. Court was a joke. Child Support Enforcement was another joke. First you have to find the husband. When you don't know what state he is in, it is not so easy. So don't tell me that the government that spends millions to buy wooden arrows, should not help their own in their disasters. Only thing I ever got was a few food stamps. I had and have pride, but not at the expense of my children. I took many beatings, choked, had my head beat against the floor over and over, for years, have a broken voice box because he hit me in the throat so hard the dr compared it to a car wreck, hitting your throat on the steering wheel, just to get them at an age that I could get by without the cost of a babysitter.

Go to the abuse site and read the horror stories. Then consider yourself and your children lucky.

And as for Margy, I am more than happy to stand beside her. She sees what I see. She has experienced what is coming, though what is the plan for this Country is much more extreme. When I see the president of the United States decorate his Holiday Tree with a dictator that killed many, I really don't think it is stupid to open my eyes. Taking the word of news reporters or someone that says something can be stupid. When you check out a news station that reports nothing but sweetness and won't dig for the truth and tell the public, then there is a problem. I have watched them all. They talk about Obama like he is a god. Well if he is so good, he sure as crap would not have a murderer hanging on the tree that is suppose to represent peace and love. That kinda love is dangerous. I never said what Party I'm in, because I am not in any. I look at the person and their record. I research a lot. I take voting seriously. Margy does her home work. There is not any togetherness, because the same battle went on during the campaign. Everything that I offered from the wide research I did was jumped on like fleas on a dog. RJ233.....Please read the post entries before responding to them. Allaboutmary stated over and over again that she was  posting from my computer. Sorry if that confused you. I happen to agree with some of the things you post. Even when I do disagree, at least your posts are USUALLY more intelligent, factual and thought out than others. Allaboutmary's sense of humor is much like Jon Stewart's, but it obviously doesn't come across that way in the written word. I guess we can only get silly if it's about a misspelled word & if you're one of Margy's followers.

All.....If you would read posts fully, you might realize we don't disagree on everything, and not one post has ever put Obama on a pedestal. There are a lot of intelligent people on the whole MH site that would love to discuss current events but they won't post on this forum, because it's about impossible to have decent discussions, while those of you who are here just to start trouble and slam the president.

I read your comments and do respect your views. With that said, the tragic situation with women on the welfare role I also understand, however, I am surprised that no one see this a socialism. If in fact it is viewed that way, then it needs to be done with altogether. It is a government program and as many claim here, the government cannot be trusted to run anything. I raised six children, for many years by myself. I know how hard it is. Family should be turned to when possible for help and more thought needs to go into getting married before we do it and better plans made when exiting. That is really not the role of government, is it? Church can help also. Welfare was invented for the truly poor not as a way to get out of marriage. IMO

I would also just add for the record that I do not put bush down. I voted for him as well. I also do not believe in trashing the current admin. Prayer may be more effective?
