solution to police brutality ? Dance instead !

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Show me your hands, or your dance moves.

A D.C. police officer helped defuse a fight between teenagers in a Washington park by challenging one of them to a dance-off.

Seventeen-year-old Aaliyah Taylor says a woman officer arrived Monday and when she saw Taylor dancing to the popular song, "Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)," the officer laughed and said she had better dance moves.

What happened next was a dance-off between the officer and the girl. Onlookers recorded the dance battle on their cellphones, according to The Washington Post.

The officer said if she won, the teens had to leave the area.

"Instead of us fighting, she tried to turn it around and make it something fun," Taylor said. "I never expected cops to be that cool. There are some good cops."

The officer matched Taylor with each step. Taylor said the officer would have kept going, but after several minutes of dancing, the teen got tired, so the two hugged and everyone left the area.

Taylor later posted a video of the dance-off on Facebook, where it had been viewed hundreds of thousands of times in less than 24 hours.

Caught on tape: D.C. police officer beats teen in dance off

The officer told the newspaper she didn't want to be identified, saying the story wasn't about her.

The officer has been with the force for about three years and recently returned from a tour of duty in Iraq.

Metropolitan Police Chief Cathy Lanier and Mayor Muriel Bowser praised the officer's actions, as did President Barack Obama.

"Who knew community policing could involve the Nae Nae?" Obama said in a tweet. "Great example of police having fun while keeping us safe.

"Caught on tape: D.C. police officer beats teen in dance off
to
"solution to police brutality ? Dance instead !"

it's nice to see something positive about a police officer today. There are many more good than bad cops. Sadly that fact doesn't increase viewership for the media.

Thanks for sharing!

Notice that I refrained from calling it a "solution"... because obviously one incident like this "isn't" a solution and not all incidents are going to be resolved in this manner, as (I hope) we all have enough sense to know... the point is that it worked to diffuse the situation, in this case and not every instance, in which there's an altercation "has" to turn violent or end up with someone dead or beaten and bloody, no matter who is involved.

Oh jeeze you guys I'm damned if I do and damned if I don't.

I thought you might be happy to see me post something good about the police.
I did change the title because I couldn't find the article I read in a real life not online newspaper that was comparing the two incidents and how a good police officer diffuses what could be a tense situation.

And as someone who loves to dance, I'd love to see everyone dancing in the streets instead of fighting, any day of the week !

Yep because the poster thinks that only way to talk with a black kid is to dance...seems a little racist to me.

Dancing might not stop someone from shooting you, but the article doesn't say if there were even guns drawn and in this case, there doesn't seem to have been... since the officer was able to diffuse the situation without violence, I'd say it's a good thing...

After that horrible cop threw a teenage girl in South Carolina,(http://www.reuters.com/article/2015/10/29/us-south-carolina-police-idUSKCN0SM1N120151029)
I was glad to see what good cops do.
