Dates/Opinions

Dates are as follows:

Oct  3 - purported first day of last period
Oct 13 - earliest day possible for conception ( partner still "on the rag")
Oct 24 - signs of hormonal emotions even a couple days before this.
Nov 5 - Doctor exam purported to be 6 weeks pregnant.

Am I crazy to think that there is a discrepancy in this information? Any help or advice here would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry, I was counting manually on a calendar that I have to flip pages on (haven't found a decent full-year calendar that does a running set of weeks yet, though I've looked) and sometimes that does cause me to drop a week. 4w5d it is.

Anyway, it is hard to tell from your post what is going on.  Maybe you got the person pregnant of maybe not (I assume by your word "partner" you are saying that someone is telling you that she is pregnant by you).

If all the person who is pregnant has had by now is a pelvic exam and not an ultrasound, it might be too late to get an assessment of exactly how far along she is from an ultrasound.  As a pregnancy progresses, ultrasounds can be less able to give an accurate assessment of the date of conception.  In the sixth or seventh week of pregnancy (counted from the first day of the woman's last period), they can be spot-on or very close, a matter or perhaps plus or minus one day.  But babies grow at different rates,  so by the 12th week (again counted from day 1 of bleeding of the woman's last period) the margin for error is a week, and by the end of pregnancy the margin for error can be as much as three weeks.  If your ex- partner is telling you dates based on an ultrasound at some point, it is worth remembering that the later, the less accurate.

Did you have unprotected sex with her ever?  Were you her partner before October 3?  If so, and if she is really pregnant, you could be the dad, the dates would support it.

It sounds a bit like she is being either confused or cagey.  Sometimes a woman does not want to tell her ex that she is pregnant because she is afraid of him or angry with him, but this doesn't quite sound like what is going on, since a woman who is not married or living with her partner can simply not tell him if she doesn't want him to know.  Another scenario sometimes seen on this site is a woman telling a guy she is pregnant (when she is not), just as part of the ongoing argument, and later she has a "tragic miscarriage."  I'm not saying that is happening here either.  But the fact that she is not giving you much information suggests she doesn't want you very involved, and sometimes that is because the guy would then find out that there are no doctor appointments or any pregnancy either.  (The other reason she might not want you involved is if she doesn't want you to figure out that she got pregnant by someone else.)

The parts of the story that don't add up are the length of the pregnancy from the first day of the last period, and the length of the period -- ten days is a long time to have a period.  But keep an open mind, if she is really pregnant and if it seems to count up to some point when you had sex with her, just tell  her you're ready to do a DNA test when the time comes.

Sometimes the guy saying calmly that this is fine, we'll just do a DNA test when the time comes, is all that it takes to straighten everything out.

Take care.

Hi, thanks.

I do not follow you as Oct 3 - Nov 5 is 33 days or 4 weeks and 5 days. Also the initial exam was only a pelvic exam. At this point certain information is being withheld from me and there is no open communication as to attending appointments or their results. Which has contributed to my doubts. Thanks again

Sorry, all of the assumptions here make it impossible to tell you whether the information is correct or not.  If someone is telling you that they are pregnant and  that you are the father, ask to see the ultrasound report from November 5th.  (If the first day of the last period was October 3, they would have been around 5 weeks 4 days or 5 weeks 5 days on November 5, because doctors count out pregnancy as beginning on the first day of the last period.)  Or go to the next doctor appointment and ask when she would have conceived.
