Unfortunately, although the range is plus or minus several days, he is not excluded because he is right in the middle of the range if your due date is projected to be January 23,
If it was too early to see much on the ultrasound, it's too early to know. Fifth-week ultrasounds aren't very helpful because ultrasounds aren't able to see enough detail and the embryo is not developed enough. But sixth-week and seventh-week ultrasounds can tell you what you need to know.
Please call your own ob-gyn and arrange to have an ultrasound next week or the week after, even if you have to pay out of pocket. Don't use the ER, you need precision. Get in not later than June 12th or so, and do what you have to, to get an ultrasound. Tell them you aren't sure when your last period was, so your doc will not be influenced by that information when giving you an estimated due date. Be sure to ask for an estimated due date, which the ultrasound tech or doctor can give you by looking at the measurements of the embryo and its developmental markers. Once you have an estimated due date, take it home and use an online conception calculator to find an estimated conception date.
Keep in mind that if you delay, you won't get a precise enough measurement to be able to rule out the guy on May 1. By the time you are in your twelfth week (counted from the first day of your last period) the margin for error will be +/- 7 days either way if you use an ultrasound to try to determine when conception was. Obviously you need to be more precise than that. If your own doc will not arrange an ultrasound, call around until you find one who will. This is your best time window, and it's worth it not to have to wonder through your whole pregnancy.
Hi, Ava, when did the doctor tell you that you were at 5 1/2 weeks, and by what method did he reach that conclusion? Did you have an ultrasound? If so, what day (date in May) was that?
