can a sonographer be off

can an u/s tech be off on dating by 4 weeks. it is technically a 38 day differenceIin the time frame I had sex to when they are saying I concieved which is technically a five week difference I guess . my first ultrasound scan was at 8 weeks and I told the woman my situation. she did say i am 100.1% sure this baby is 8 weeks. I just want confirmation I am now 17 weeks and 3 days and very surprised to find out im having a boy with my boyfriend. I felt sure that we would have a girl. please help. my conception date with my friend is feb 2 and they told me I concieved march 12. the due date for my friend would give me october 26th and mydue date is said to be december 3rd. please just help reassure me. I am so surprised my boyfriend has given me a boy. im not upset its just was not expected givin that mine and his family has alot more women then men.

You can be off by a couple days but there is no way they would be off by a month.  they are very very different.   If you look at an 8wk ultrasound and a 12 week one you will notice a HUGE difference.

No, I'm a lawyer by training.  I have often written back and forth with people in this field to check my work; there is at least one ultrasound technician who writes on MedHelp, and I have spoken on the phone with the head of one of the DNA test labs to discuss various issues related to DNA testing before the baby is born.  However, I think the more complex work that is to be done on this forum is helping women deal with guilt, stress and anxiety, that has nothing to do with DNA tests.  Often they trust the answer they are getting over and over from everyone, deep in their hearts, but don't stop obsessively asking the question anyway.

I am just concerned about it I want my baby to have a good family life I dont want split homes and what not. not saying that makes a bad home just saying I really just for my child and myself want a family unit.

No, an 8th-week embryo is going to be very different on the ultrasound screen than a 12th or 13th week embryo.  You've asked this question before, and you now say you have also asked the ultrasound tech also; if you cannot believe anyone's explanations perhaps you can look up some 8th-week ultrasound pictures and some 12th week ultrasound pictures and see for yourself how different they look.  And keep in mind if you do, if they look different to your eye, imagine how many more cues and clues they provide to someone with a BA in ultrasound technology who looks at scans of embryos every day.  An embryo with a conception date of February 2 would not be mistaken for one with a conception date of March 12 and vice versa. (And for what it is worth, whether the baby is a boy or girl has more to do with how fast the sperm met the egg than anything else.  If you had ovulated and the egg was on the way down the tube the day you and your boyfriend had sex, the likelihood that a fast-moving male sperm got to it rather than a slower-swimming female sperm is higher.)

and if the baby were to be my friends the conception date would be feb 2, we only had sex one time. and yes without protection. I was coming off of my period when we had sex. and it stayed for maybe a little while afterward. just the ultrasound tech said I concieved march 12 which I got sick on march 13 cause my body felt week I thought I had worms. ugh. such a long story I just want to know if my u/s tech would be off a lot. I also had another ultrasound scan at 12 weeks. they changed the due date by a couple of days but said thats normal as the baby starts to pick up its on growing genetics by 12 weeks.
