pregnant, need answers please!!!

hello all,

i just found out i was pregnant and before i continue, please keep all negative comments ore judgments to yourself, we are all human and we all make mistakes.

moving on...i found out in november 2014 i am pregnant. i went for my first u/s apt on dec. 9 2014, i couldnt remember my lmp (silly i know, but ididnt expect to get pregnant) anyhow, during the u/s i informed the doc that i didnt remember, and he informed me that based on my u/s i was measuring at 9 weeks and 5 days, and that my lmp was oct 2 2014. after using a few online conception calculators, conception would have been between oct. 12-16th. which puts sex for getting pregnant roughly around oct 10-12th.

my concern is on sept. 26 2014 i had sex with an ex of mines and although he did not ejaculate, i still know their is a possibility of conceiving. I never had sex with him again after that because the following month i got back with my boyfriend. My question is, is their any chance my ex could be the father, and yes i do know a dna test is an option, however i just want a little help in hte meantime to help ease some concern while pregnant. thanks in advance.

If you have only one kind of evidence when deciding when you might have conceived, you're way better off if it is an early ultrasound than if it is the first day of a last period.  This is because periods can be all over the place in relation to when a woman ovulates -- they just aren't that reliable of a predictor, but early ultrasounds are.  Occasionally, a woman (especially a young woman in great health) will have 28-day cycles like clockwork every month.  That woman, you could put some store in when her last period was, when trying to determine when pregnancy began.  But for most women, ovulation is between, say, day 8 and day 20,  with such a wide range making an ultrasound that sees the actual embryo much better evidence.  Some women only ovulate and have a period every few months.  The ultrasound is VERY helpful then, to date the pregnancy by the clues offered by the embryo.

In essence, the ultrasound looks at the size of the embryo and its developmental markers, and says "this embryo is consistent in size with an embryo of x age."  It doesn't matter, once the embryo has been seen on the ultrasound, when your actual first period was.  Its development is now tracked directly..

Also how accurate are doctors with determining your lmp if I couldn't remember?  Like I said I don't remember so when I told my doctor that he determined my lmp based on my first ultrasound at 9 wks 5 days That my period would have been on oct 2

Thank you so much! And yes I have had sex with my current bf begore and after that date. And those are the exact dates my doc gave me for conception. I have been getting the same response from alot of friends but I guess im just letting my mind and guilt get the best of me. My bf and I have been together for 9 yrs and after breaking up in early sept I made a stupid mistake. I guess I was more concerned because we have been ttc for alost 7 yrs and nothing happened. But my doctors saying this time we gotlucky because he and I both started taking geritol in august around my bday (24th) now I am totally relieved. Thank you so much! Yesterday made 14 weeks and I am just going to start trying to enjoy my pregnancy :)

Hi, kingsmom, don't worry, we don't do negative comments in DNA/Paternity.

The calculator I use gives a probable ovulation date of October 16 for someone who is 9 weeks 5 days on December 9.   In your ninth week, the margin for error in using an ultrasound for dating purposes is +/- a few days (but not even as much as a week).  The guy from September 26 would be too early to get you pregnant, and that of course is particularly true if you had a period October 2.  But he is too early anyway, by the evidence of the ultrasound.  You don't mention when you had sex with your boyfriend, I assume it was before October 16?
