I actually did have two more clots that showed up after I was on warfarin for the first dvt in my leg. when I got out of the hospital, I first had pain/swelling in my arm, ultrasound confirmed a superficial clot there which was caused by 3 attempts to place a new iv in my arm while I was in the icu in dka. The clot oddly didn't show up until I did some exercise. Then a week later I had pain in the other leg, swelling and swelling in the ankle. I went to the er again, they kept me overnight and said they could feel something going on which was a sign of a clot. I was given a shot of lovenox as my inr had gone down and then in the morning ultrasound was done. That was negative but I'm sure I had something going on in that leg too. When I discussed it all with my hematologist later(he was the one to tell me to go to the er with my symptoms) he said he thought all the clots were there originally from my first hospitalization for dka. But I have heard other people say they have thrown clots while on blood thinners so I think it's possible. But since you're on a blood thinner already the danger is much less as long as the inr is high enough.
Hi,
I understand your concern regarding blood clot symptoms. While it is common to feel pain, tenderness and swelling in the leg, this can also present with no symptoms. While taking Coumadin, it is important that you check with your attending physician regularly and monitor for bleeding, a common risk if you are taking Coumadin. Take care and do keep us posted.
