Hi, I am looking for support for my varicose veins! I have what would be considered a pretty severe case and I'm only 31 and male. I've had them since youth, but after all the chaos in my life in that past 5 yrs, I haven't been in touch with my body as much as usual! But most of all I have been doing a lot of hard physical labor over the years (grunt work) and I have noticed that just in the past year my veins have gotten alarmingly worse, and now I want to immediately quit my farming job, as my veins have clearly become more severe. Most concerning is that my better leg is now showing them on my thigh (above my knee and traveling up toward my groin. I noticed this because my legs began hurting from all the HEAVY LIFTING every day on the farm. And when I checked them out I had no idea that my thigh would be this bad.
I already committed to half time this winter on the farm and my boss is relying on me, and we were envisioning me staying longer term, but now I just want to leave, and end my career as a physical laborer. I have alternatives I want to pursue, but regardless, I am aware that every day of heavy lifting is taking years of my life. Or it is expediting my disease rapidly and I know I need to stop.
Does this make sense to anyone who suffers from varicose veins? This is most alarming to me because now I am noticing when I sit in my car I feel my veins on my thigh touching the seat and as a 31 yr old this is alarming and uncomfortable. I feel I should have never been this hard on my frail body!
Anyway, I know struggle makes us beautiful so i am not complaining, but I also believe that we shouldn't jump into harms way.
Thanks for your support and MH should have a varicose vein forum. wth.
I understand your concern regarding your symptoms. Varicose veins may indeed become swollen appear lumpy, bulging or twisted as well as painful. The vein valves weaken or are damaged causing blood to backflow. If your varicose veins are causing you pain or discomfort, it is best that you have this evaluated by your doctor for proper management. Endothermal ablation, sclerotherapy, and even phlebectomy may be indicated. Compression stockings may also help improve the circulation in the legs. Avoid standing or sitting still for long periods, and take regular breaks throughout the day. Take care and do keep us posted.
