My leg is swollen,  the vain looks twisted and it is causing a lot of pain.  I am going to the doctor today but is there anything else I should be doing?

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi there,
What are the other associated symptoms you have been having? Varicose veins appear swollen, twisted, and may cause heaviness, aching and pain in the legs. In severe cases there may be brownish discoloration of the skin at the ankles and skin ulcers. Defective valves, pregnancy, obesity, thrombophlebitis all can put at risk of deep vein thrombosis. If you are doubtful it is best to seek medical help. A clinical examination and duplex ultrasound examination of the extremity may help in diagnosing. Do keep us posted.
All the best!
