Hi there. Treatment of early dementia or mild cognitive impairment includes the person to remain physically, socially, and mentally active. This helps maintain healthy weight, promotes relaxation and sleep and improves the mood. A daily walk and socially interaction helps prevent depression.
Acetylcholine is an important messenger in brain and is impaired in MCI. Cholinesterase inhibitors stop the breakdown of this neurotransmitter to increase the acetylcholine in the brain and improve brain function in MCI. These improve cognitive functions and slow the conversion of MCI to dementia. Some of these drugs are donepezil, rivastigmine and galantamine.
Take care.
