After 6 months still problem with crown with root canal

by Michelle45, May 02, 2009 02:08PM
I had a root canal in Sept of 2008.  A temporary crown was put after that and I had no problems.  A couple of days after the permanent crown was put in, I started having pain when I chewed.  There was no sensitivity to hot or cold.  The dentist adjusted the bite and told me to wait a couple of weeks... that it might be the ligament.  The pain got worse and she decided to take off the permanent crown, put another temporary and sent me back to the root canal specialist for a consult.

To make  long story short...I have been to see the root canal specialist 3 times.  He sees no problem.  I have seen my dentist more than 6 times.  Both doctors have told me to wait...that it might be the ligament.  I have to admit that some days the pain is better than others.

I had another appointment with my dentist last week.  She had me make an appointment to make the mold for another permanent crown, which I think is a mistake.  She insists it's time to put a permanent crown because it's been 6 months. I haven't chewed on the tooth/crown all week and today I tried and it was very painful.  They both say that the tooth doesn't seem to be cracked. Again, there is no sensitivity to hot or cold.

I feel that neither doctor wants to take responsability.  What should I do??!!!   Thanks

Your descriptions suggest there is occlusal interfernce of final crown. If your restorative dentist can not adjust the bite optimally, you may need to see an occlusionist or prosthodontist.
