Alkaline Rinse

Alkaline Rinse

My dentist recommended an alkaline rinse that insurance won't pay for and has to be bought through their office. Would rinsing with a baking soda and water solution be effective?

Why is your doctor recommending an alkaline rinse for?

She says that the bacteria in my mouth are acidic, and that alkalines would help balance that.

Why not just rinse with water?  Its neutral and would wash away the acid anyways?  I don't see the benefit in it necessarily.  I was just wondering why it was recommended cause I've never prescribed/recommended it before.  I actually have never heard of it before but it doesn't necessarily mean its a bad thing though.
