Allergic reaction from dental work

by NBO, Sep 13, 2009 10:03AM
Over the last month I have had dental work done to replace a broken bridge.  Each time I have had a procedure done I have experienced swelling on that side of my face.  The only consistent procedure done was the shot.
First trip was to prepare for crowns... second was root canal/No swelling... third filling & final was fitting of the bridge w/no work done at all except the shot... each trip to the dentist I had pain after the work was done which I considered normal.  The interesting thing is that when I went to for the root canal there was no swelling from the shot... (different Dr. maybe different type of general used?)... I have read many on line comments about swelling and most say it's not from the shot... however, this seems to be the only common denominator in the scenario.  The swelling starts a day or two after the procedure and lasts nearly a week.  I am experiencing the swelling right now and had the bridge put in last Thursday.  Is this an allergic reaction?  Is this dangerous?  I will see my Dentist tomorrow to show him the swelling.  It is very noticeable.  The whole side of my face is swollen.  Advice please... Thanks.

Possible allergens from dental office include latex glove, eugenol, and anesthetic solution. You may ask your dentist to give you lidocaine for anesthesia. Lidocaine is probably least allergic.
