Annoying jaw pain

I had my wisdom teeth (all of them, and they all were impacted) removed in March. Since then, I have experienced the same kind of jaw pain I had before the surgery. It's almost as if the teeth were never removed. It's not a consistent pain, but it comes and goes for at least a few days out of every week. It's mostly just annoying, but it can get pretty severe and it is often accompanied by earaches and headaches. I'm pretty sure that it's not TMJ since it's so sporadic, but it'll be another three months before my dentist can fit me in. Anyone have any ideas?

I am not sure that this discomfort is not associated with the TMJ area.TmJ pain can be sporadic. I would consider finding a dentist that specializes in TMJ dysfunction.

I just purchased a mouth gaurd 5 days ago so far it has helped me out with alieviating the pain I was experiencing not just in my teeth but my jaw and neck as well. I got mine at target ($18.99) molded it myself. If you do it yourself be sure your jaw is in the neutral position when molding it. Good luck

I had bought one of those mouthguards at the recommendation of a pharmacist, and I followed all of the directions but it falls out every night. I bought a second one to be sure that I hadn't somehow messed it up, but I got the same results. I was told that my dentist could fit me with one professionally, but my dentist is consistently backed up. Thanks for your input, though. I think I'm going to see if my insurance won't allow me to see a different dentist.

It's funny you mentioned the fitting. I tried fitting my husband into one last night we kept re-boiling it I finally gave up on him. It is a bit like taking an impression at the dentist office. If you ever do try again, try the brand Doctors night gaurd $18.99 and they will refund you if you do not like it. They do take some getting use to and I just figured before I spent upwards of $500. I had better try out sleeping with something in my mouth and see if I could handle it. I like the cheap on e for now, but like you I willl eventually get a truely fitted one.
