Appearance of area after a tooth extraction

by LARLYNN, Nov 09, 2005 12:00AM
I had a lower back tooth extracted (not a wisdom tooth) a week ago. The area around the hole has several firm small bumps that are the color of bone or tooth. The center of the hole has a  whitish layer and if disturbed reveals blood underneath and then reforms. There is also loose skin(?) around the edge of the hole that appears to be grey.

I've followed all the dentist's instructions and am taking penicillin.

Is this normal healing?

It is difficult to determine if the socket is healing well from your descriptoin. If you do not have pain then more than likely it is healing well. If you are concerned then go back to the dentist and get his opinion.
